We are proud to have introduced The National Living Wage, which increased again in April to £8.21. The Department continues to encourage local authorities to make use of the Transforming Cities Fund and other relevant national funding streams to support cycling and walking schemes and engages regularly with them in the development of their LCWIPs (Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans). It is important to ensure that new vehicles such as a e-scooters are built and can operate safely, both for people riding them and for other people using the roads. Whilst e-scooters can be used on private property (with the landowner’s permission), in general it is illegal to ride them on the road. This includes on cycle lanes, or tracks, or on the pavement.</p><p>An information sheet on powered transporters, including electric scooters, and where they can be used is available online at</p><p><a href="http://www.gov.uk/government/publications/powered-transporters/information-sheet-guidance-on-powered-transporters" target="_blank">www.gov.uk/government/publications/powered-transporters/information-sheet-guidance-on-powered-transporters</a>.</p><p>Through the Future of Mobility Grand Challenge, the Department is exploring how new technologies are changing the nature of transport. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 18/01/2019 answer text <p>The Government has undertaken a comprehensive strategic assessment of the effects of Heathrow expansion on the area surrounding the airport as part of the Appraisal of Sustainability. This assessment included consideration of local economic impacts including a forecast that, with expansion, between 39,000 and 78,000 additional local jobs will be created by 2050. The Airports National Policy Statement (ANPS) expects that Heathrow Airport Limited’s (HAL) public pledge on apprenticeships will be met. By 2030 this is projected to double to 10,000 the number of apprenticeships available across the airport, its supply chain and airport related businesses.</p><p>Heathrow Airport already has good surface transport links to the rest of the UK. In the future, it will connect to Crossrail, link to HS2 at Old Oak Common and Transport for London has recently completed the procurement for new trains on the Piccadilly line which will increase to 15 trains per hour the number of trains serving the airport. Through the current Aviation 2050 consultation the Department is considering a new Passenger Charter that will include standards for booking information, and clear terms and conditions. The Civil Aviation Authority is engaging with industry to ensure that their terms and conditions are transparent, prominent and fair.
