<p>This UK has one of the best electric vehicle infrastructure networks in the world.
As part of this, Highways England are investing £15m to ensure that there is a rapid
chargepoint every 20 miles along 95% of the strategic road network.</p><p> </p><p>Motorway
service areas have commercial agreements with chargepoint providers, to which the
Government is not a party. The Automated and Electric Vehicles Act gives the Government
powers to require the installation of chargepoints at motorway service areas, and
to set reliability and maintenance standards for public chargepoints. The Government
will continue to monitor market developments and will consider using these powers
if the market does not deliver.</p>
