answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 16/12/2016 answer text <p>The Government does not keep data on water mills.</p><p>The majority of hydro capacity in Great Britain was installed in Scotland in the first hydro revolution in the 1950s, with a smaller amount installed in Wales. The majority of these installations are still operating. In 2015, it was estimated that there were 1,065 operational plants with a capacity of 1,750 Megawatts, generating 6 Terawatt hours (equivalent to 1.8% of UK electricity supply)[1].</p><p>The Government does not monitor the condition of existing hydro power plants in the UK. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 15/12/2016 answer text <p>The Department commissioned a report from Atkins into the greenhouse gas implications of underground coal gasification to inform Government policy about its development in the UK; this report was peer reviewed by academics and industry representatives.</p><p>The report finds that emissions from underground coal gasification would be too high to be consistent with our commitment to a low-carbon future, and would not accord with our recent ratification of the Paris Agreement. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 15/12/2016 answer text <p>The Government has taken a number of measures to promote the use of sustainable and efficient energy measures in residential buildings.</p><p>On 8 December we published a consultation on the Future of Heat in domestic buildings. This consultation seeks views on a range of options that can keep heating bills as low as possible, ensure the UK has a secure and resilient energy system and reduce carbon emissions cost-effectively at home. On 14<sup>th</sup> December, we also published the response to our consultation on reforms to the Renewable Heat Incentive. The reforms will focus on long-term decarbonisation, promote technologies with a credible role to play in that transition and offer better value for money for taxpayers.</p><p>The Government has already introduced a number of provisions to drive energy efficiency improvements in both domestic and non-domestic privately rented property through the Energy Efficiency (Private Rented Property) (England and Wales) Regulations 2015. Landlords will be required by law to have improved the energy efficiency rating of the properties they let to an Energy Performance Certificate rating of at least an E from April 2018. <br> <br> The Energy Company Obligation (ECO), and its successor, will continue to deliver energy efficiency improvements out to 2022. <br> <br> We also commissioned an independent review into consumer advice, protection, standards and enforcement for home energy efficiency and renewable energy measures which will be published imminently.</p> answering member constituency Hereford and South Herefordshire answering member printed Jesse Norman question first answered 15/12/2016 16:09:36 answering member 3991 label Biography information for Jesse Norman
