answer text <p>£4.1m was invested to improve this junction in 2015, and the M6 through it will be upgraded at this point to smart motorway standard under the current road investment strategy. Highways England’s <em>London to Scotland West </em>route strategy identified this junction as a “potential future pinch point where congestion could inhibit future economic growth” and Highways England will revisit this assessment when it next reviews its route strategies.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Government is providing local highway authorities in England outside London with £296 million between 2016 and 2021 from the Pothole Action Fund. This includes an extra £46 million announced in the Autumn Budget 2017.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>St Helens Council is a member of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority. Highway Maintenance funding, including the Pothole Action Fund, is now paid directly to the Combined Authority, which is responsible for allocating funding to its constituent members.</p><p><br>Funding from the Pothole Action Fund for 2016/17 was paid directly to St Helens Council, and totalled £143,000. answer text <p>The Government recently consulted on proposals to increase the amount that energy companies pay to fund household energy efficiency improvements for low income and vulnerable households to £450m by 2017 and up to £640m by 2018.</p><p> </p><p>Energy companies are also required to provide over 2 million low income and vulnerable households with a £140 rebate off their energy bill each winter, under the Warm Home Discount Scheme.</p><p> </p><p>These proposals combined will see up to £1bn of support for low income and vulnerable households each year from 2018.</p><p> </p><p>If suppliers believe a domestic customer is having difficulty paying all or part of their energy bills, they must offer facilities to make payments by: deductions direct from benefits, known as Fuel Direct; regular instalments paid through a means other than a prepayment meter; or, using a prepayment meter, where it is safe and reasonably practicable for the customer to do so.</p><p> </p><p>It is important that customers who are experiencing difficulties in paying their gas or electricity bills contact their supplier as soon as possible to arrange a repayment plan that suits their needs.</p><p> </p>
