answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 30/10/2014 answer text <p>We remain concerned by recent reports of violence in Colombia and the reported increase in threats against human rights defenders there, in particular those detailed in the “Somos Defensores” report published in August. I recently held a meeting with the hon. Gentleman and other parliamentary colleagues where I received further reports of violence in the country.</p><p>During my visit to Colombia in June, I set out our concerns about the reported rise in attacks against human rights defenders in my meetings with Colombia’s Deputy Foreign Ministers and the heads of the Colombian government’s major human rights agencies. I also met representatives from Colombian and international human rights organisations, including Oxfam and Christian Aid, to discuss the issue. The former Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, my right hon. We are aware of concerns in Malaysia about rising acts of religious intolerance and we regularly raise the issue of freedom of religion with the Malaysian authorities.</p><p>Freedom of religion was at the heart of my right hon. and noble Friend the former Minister of State's (Baroness Warsi's) visit to Malaysia in April this year. She had wide-ranging meetings on this issue, including with the Malaysian Prime Minister, and made a major speech setting out the UK position. We also pursue the importance of observing religious freedoms through Parliamentary and experts visits and through multi-lateral mechanisms, such as the EU and the UN. On 3 September, my Hon Friend, the Member for Southend and Rochford East (James Duddridge MP), the Minister for Africa led the UK delegation to the Abuja ministerial meeting on security in Nigeria. At this meeting, he emphasised the importance of regional coordination between Nigeria and its neighbours in defeating Boko Haram and locating the girls. The Prime Minister has stressed to President Jonathan our continued commitment to helping the Nigerian Government find the girls. It is not yet clear what impact the recently announced ceasefire between the Nigerian security forces and Boko Haram might have on the missing Chibok girls. However, the UK Government recognises that much more needs to be done to ensure that the spread of Ebola in West Africa is contained. That is why my Rt Hon Friend, the Member for Witney (David Cameron), Prime Minister has pushed for an urgent and ambitious scale-up in EU and Member States resources to fight Ebola at October’s European Council. The Prime Minster will make a statement about this on Monday 27 October.
