answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 11/05/2016 answer text <p>UK aid to Yemen is currently focused on the most urgent life-saving needs, in particular food, nutrition, health, water and sanitation. We have so far helped more than 1.3 million Yemenis who have been affected by the conflict.</p><p>DFID has supported education in Yemen through the Social Fund for Development (SFD). Since 2010, more than 240,000 children have attended schools supported by SFD. DFID is also supporting the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to rehabilitate schools which is helping 3,500 refugee children and Yemeni children from their host communities, to resume education.</p><p>The UK is working closely with the Government of Yemen, Gulf countries, the World Bank, UN and other donors on planning for stabilisation and post-conflict recovery. Humanitarian agencies report that they are constrained in reaching areas of greatest humanitarian need and delivering assistance for a number of reasons including bureaucratic requirements imposed by the authorities, access challenges for international staff, insecurity in a number of districts, and a proliferation of checkpoints across the country.</p><p> </p><p>We continue to urge all parties to the conflict to take all reasonable steps to facilitate rapid, safe and unhindered humanitarian access. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 11/04/2016 answer text <p>The United Nations report that 21.2 million people in Yemen require some kind of humanitarian assistance to meet their basic needs or protect their fundamental rights, as cited in the 2016 Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP). The government uses this UN report as one if its primary data sources.</p><p>We continue to call on other donors to step up. In July 2015 the Foreign and Development Secretaries wrote to international donors to raise the profile of Yemen’s humanitarian crisis and encourage more funding to the response. UNHAS has provided 88 flights since the crisis began, carrying 2,129 passengers and 8.6 metric tons of essential medical supplies. 14 UN agencies and 28 NGOs are now using the service. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 16/11/2015 answer text <p>Increasing the provision of humanitarian aid to Yemen and ensuring that aid gets to those most in need has been one of the UK’s top priorities for Yemen:</p><br /><ul><li>In July the Foreign and Development Secretaries wrote to international donors to raise the profile of Yemen’s humanitarian crisis and encourage more funding to the response.</li><li>On 28 September, the Development Secretary co-hosted a side event on Yemen’s humanitarian crisis at UNGA, at which donors (including the UK) pledged an additional $129 million to Yemen. The Co-Chairs statement from the meeting can be found here: <a href="http://reliefweb.int/report/yemen/co-chairs-statement-ministerial-yemen-meeting-monday-28-september-2015" target="_blank">http://reliefweb.int/report/yemen/co-chairs-statement-ministerial-yemen-meeting-monday-28-september-2015</a>.</li><li>The UK has also worked closely with the King Salman Humanitarian Centre and the UN to ensure Saudi Arabia’s generous $274 million pledge to the UN Flash Appeal was delivered by September this year.</li><li>The UK has also announced £75 million to respond to the crisis in Yemen.</li></ul><br /><p>We work with trusted and impartial actors who have a strong record of prioritising assistance to those most in need and delivering assistance in difficult and dangerous places. We continue to call on all parties to facilitate rapid, safe and unhindered access to all people in need in Yemen; to safeguard key infrastructure, including airports, sea ports, fuel distribution sites and major access routes into Yemen; and to respect the importance of ensuring humanitarian aid is not politicised and goes to the neediest. This followed the publication of the UN report and other assessments of need that demonstrated the deterioration of the humanitarian situation.</p><br /><p>This new funding is to key partner agencies operating on the ground including the World Food Programme, UNICEF and NGOs via UN OCHA’s (Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs) Yemen Humanitarian Pooled Fund.
