answer text <p>Since 2010 the Government has provided two funds to increase voter registration.</p><p>The participation fund ended in 2010-11 and in that year provided £54,708 to local authorities, including 3 in Wales, on promoting electoral registration, voting and awareness of election processes. The fund was abolished due to lack of demand from local authorities.</p><p> </p><p>In 2013-14 £189,410.27 was provided to local authorities in Wales with the direct intention of maximising voter registration. answer text <p>Ministerial Guidance to Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) on this topic was published in September 2013 on the Cabinet Office website and in Electoral Commission guidance to EROs.</p><p>This information is available in the Library.</p><p><em>Applicants registering to vote who are unable to provide a National Insurance Number must state the reason on their submission. If they do not know their National Insurance Number they will be advised by EROs of locations, such as payslips, where they can find this information. Applicants who do not have a National Insurance Number must provide documentary evidence of their identity, such as a UK passport, before their request can be determined.</em></p> more like this

answer text <p>The Government has no plans to explore the possibility of electronic voting in elections for members of the armed forces posted overseas.</p><p>The Government has extended the electoral timetable for UK Parliamentary elections from 17 to 25 working days which will allow postal votes to be issued sooner and facilitate postal voting being viable for electors who are living overseas, including members of the armed forces.</p><p> </p> more like this

answer text <p>UK Youth and Scottish Youth Parliament, who both received a share of the £4.2 million funding for maximising registration, are developing and testing approaches to promote engagement of young people with the democratic process. The Government has made available for free the Rock Enrol! learning resource, and is working with the Higher Education sector to promote on-line registration during course enrolment for students. Over the summer the Electoral Commission will be running a nationwide media campaign which will make prominent reference to the new online registration page.</p><p>The Government has no plans to legislate to require Electoral Registration Officers and Returning Officers to incentivise electoral registration and voting, such as with discounted council tax or prize draws.</p><p> </p> more like this

answer text <p>Mr Aamer's case remains a high priority for the Government. We take Mr Aamer's welfare very seriously and continue to make clear to the US at the highest levels that we wish to secure his release, and return to the UK, as a matter of urgency. Most recently, the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, my Rt. Hon. Friend the Member for Richmond (Yorks) (Mr Hague), raised Mr Aamer's case in a meeting with the US Secretary of State, John Kerry, in February this year.
