<p>We are aware of the letter that was sent to Federica Mogherini in June. Israel
faces very real security threats. All countries, including Israel, have a legitimate
right to self-defence, and the right to defend their citizens from attack. We do not
believe that imposing a blanket arms embargo would lead to progress in the peace process.
The British Government takes its defence exports responsibilities extremely seriously
and operates some of the most robust export controls in the world. All applications
for export licences are assessed on a case-by-case basis against strict criteria.
We only approve equipment which is for Israel's legitimate self-defence.</p>
