answer text <p>The adoption of a zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) mandate for new cars and vans was confirmed in the Government’s Net Zero Strategy in October 2021, following a public consultation that launched in July 2021. In April 2022 we consulted on its policy design features to engage further on the future regulation, and a third and final consultation outlining our final full proposal is due to be published soon. These proposals will be subject to consultation, where the Department will take stakeholder views into consideration before bringing forward the legislation to enter into force next year.</p><p> </p><p> </p> more like this

answer text <p>The Government is committed to reducing air pollution from all forms of transport, which has significantly reduced since 2010. Emissions of nitrogen oxides have fallen by 45% and emissions of PM2.5 by 10% since that date.</p><p>The DVSA Market Surveillance Unit will continue to conduct a vehicle-emissions testing programme to monitor vehicle emissions performance and address non-compliance where identified.</p><p>Since 2015, there have been 134 manufacturer recalls or non-code actions involving a total of 1.85 million vehicles to amend or upgrade emissions systems. Not all action will have been to address non-compliance.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Net Zero Strategy, published in 2021, confirmed the Government's intention to introduce a zero emission vehicle mandate, setting targets for a percentage of manufacturers' new car and van sales to be zero emission each year from 2024. answer text <p>We continue to press manufacturers to rectify failings where vehicles on the road, even some of the newest models, show harmful emissions levels significantly greater than the laboratory test limits. Some manufacturers have committed to offering voluntary software changes to EU5 and EU6 vehicles to improve their real world performance and we are encouraging other manufacturers to do the same.</p><p> </p><p>In the Autumn Budget, Government announced supplements to Vehicle Excise Duty and Company Car Tax for new diesel cars not certified to step 2 of Real Driving Emissions (RDE2) standards – also known as Euro-6d. These supplements provide strong incentives for manufacturers to innovate and adopt cleaner technologies on an accelerated basis.</p> more like this
