This builds on the good work DFID is already delivering with the FCO: in 32 bilateral posts, 16 multilateral missions and through the eight FCO-DFID Joint Units in London. The Prime Minister also appointed separate Secretaries of State for the Foreign Office and DFID in the recent reshuffle and is keen to make sure UK aid is both spent well and aligned with the UK’s foreign policy priorities.</p><p>The Government Manifesto maintains spending 0.7% of GNI on ODA and pledges to end the preventable deaths of mothers, new-born babies and children by 2030 and lead the way in eradicating Ebola and malaria. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 02/03/2020 answer text <p>Supporting delivery of Sustainable Development Goal 4 by promoting 12 years of quality education for all children, especially girls, by 2030 is a top priority for the Prime Minister, and was a commitment in the Conservative Manifesto.</p><p>Girls’ education is central to the UK’s drive to tackle poverty, boost economic growth, improve stability, reduce conflict and to address climate change.</p><p>The UK is a leading donor and between 2015 and 2019 UK Aid supported 14.3 million children to gain a decent education.</p><p>DFID’s 2018 education policy sets UK priorities for global education to:</p><p>- Improve teaching: develop teacher’s skills and knowledge, boost motivation, retain and monitor performance,</p><p>- Back education reforms which deliver results in the classroom, to make systems more accountable, inclusive and effective,</p><p>- Step up targeted support for the most marginalised children (focusing on hard to reach girls, children affected by crises, children with disabilities).</p><p>We are delivering this by providing focused support in 20 countries and supporting education in a further 50 through global programmes such as the Girls’ Education Challenge and support to the Global Partnership for Education.</p> answering member constituency Aldridge-Brownhills answering member printed Wendy Morton question first answered 02/03/2020 18:04:10 answering member 4358 label Biography information for Wendy Morton

	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 28/02/2020 answer text <p>As a Member State, the UK spent approximately 10% of our Official Development Assistance (ODA) through the EU each year. Going forward we will be able to make our own decisions about where, when and how we invest that money. The UK will continue to play a leading role in tackling global development challenges in support of the national interest.</p><p>Under the Withdrawal Agreement the UK will honour its share of commitments made to the EU budget and off-budget funds during the period of our membership. For DFID, this means that we will meet our commitments to EU development programmes approved by 31 December 2020 until their closure. Whilst the number of children living in emergencies has increased in the last decade, no reliable estimates currently exist for the proportion of adolescent girls who are out- of- school and affected by emergencies. DFID is supporting the UNESCO UIS and other partners to improve global data sources related to SDG4. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 02/03/2020 answer text <p>The Girls’ Education Challenge (GEC) Phase 2, launched in 2017, aims to reach 1.5 million marginalised and highly marginalised girls.</p><p>GEC projects are currently reaching approximately 468,000 girls aged between 5 and 11; approximately 732,000 girls and young women aged between 12 and 19; and 85,000 young women aged between 20 and 24.</p><p>A further 15,000 girls aged 10-19 are supported by a project in Mozambique which does not record age breakdown.</p><p>Up to 190,000 girls are also being supported through GEC ‘Leave No Girl Behind’ projects, focused on highly marginalised adolescent girls who have dropped out of or never attended school. These projects started delivering in 2019 and data is being collected during 2020 on the numbers and characteristics of the girls reached. Immunisation is one of the most cost-effective interventions in health and a key driver of progress towards reducing child mortality.</p><p>The UK is proud to be one Gavi’s strongest supporters. We provide Gavi with multi-year commitments, which cover five-year periods. This enables Gavi to provide countries with predictable and sustainable financing, which is essential to launching long-term, lasting routine immunisation programmes in national health systems.</p><p>The UK committed £1.32 billion to Gavi between 2011-2015. The UK’s current £1.44 billion of support to Gavi between 2016-2020 has saved 1.4 million lives from vaccine-preventable diseases in 68 of the world’s poorest countries. Our £1.44 billion of support to Gavi between 2016-2020 has reached 1.4 million individuals in 68 of the world’s poorest countries, saving their lives from vaccine-preventable diseases. Thanks to Gavi, coverage has risen substantially across these countries to 81%, a 22-percentage point increase from 2000. The UK’s commitment to Gavi is also central to our work to end preventable deaths of mothers, new-borns and children by 2030.</p><p>The UK is proud to be hosting the Gavi Replenishment Conference on 3-4th June, to secure Gavi the funds it needs to immunise 300 million more children and save at least 7 million lives between 2021 and 2025.</p><p>Gavi’s strategy for the next strategic period is focused on ‘leaving no one behind with immunisation’. Based on current patterns of expenditure, we reliably estimate they will continue to have access to EDF 11 until 2024 and possibly beyond.</p><p>After we leave the EU, we will want to take our own decisions about how to deliver the policy objectives previously targeted by EU funding. Our reporting is based on internationally agreed Organisation for Co-operation and Development - Development Assistance Committee (OECD-DAC) codes, as part of our commitment to transparent reporting of development assistance in a way that permits international comparisons. We do not currently collect the information disaggregated between physical and mental health as these are not categories within the OECD-DAC codes.</p><p>We are focused on ending the preventable deaths of mothers, new-born babies and children.
