answer text <p>The Department’s National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) funds and supports research into all aspects of human health. Spend on research funded directly by NIHR is categorised by Health Research Classification System (HRCS) categories, including ‘cancer’. There are no HRCS health sub-categories, such as for pancreatic cancer.</p><p> </p><p>The NIHR invested £745 million in cancer research from 2010-11 to 2015-16 (see table below). answer text <p>The Public Interest Disclosure Act 1998 ensures that workers who raise concerns of wrongdoing to their employer or a relevant external body (by making what is known as a ‘protected disclosure’) and suffer detriment as a result may seek redress through an Employment Tribunal.</p><p> </p><p>With regards to information on tax avoidance and evasion HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) gathers information from a number of sources including whistle-blowers. Any information which is provided to HMRC is treated as confidential and details of the individual providing the information will not be divulged, without consent, except where compelled by law.</p><p> </p><p>HMRC does not offer immunity from prosecution within the UK or in a third country where that country’s legislation is at odds with UK Legislation.</p><p> </p> more like this

Panel members were able to share private correspondence with the Secretariat that supports the Panel, where relevant. Where any evidence has influenced the reports it has been cited.</p><p>The HFEA has also advised that it approached John Zhang, following the publication of the abstract from the October 2016 American Society for Reproductive Medicine meeting, entitled “First live birth using human oocytes reconstituted by spindle nuclear transfer for mitochondrial DNA mutation causing Leigh syndrome”. A copy of the abstract is attached. The Panel also interviewed Prof. Zhang to further understand the methods used. The Panel’s report references the Zhang work.</p> more like this

answer text <p>An international student studying in the UK must demonstrate that they have:</p><p>• £1,265 per month for living costs if they are studying in London for the majority of their study (more than 50% of study time);</p><p>• £1,015 per month for living costs if they are studying outside London, or anywhere else in the UK, for the majority of their study (more than 50% of study time).</p><p>In most cases, an international student will need to show that they have money for their living costs for each month of their course, up to a maximum of nine months. The amount of funds that international students must demonstrate for living costs were raised in November 2015 in line with the combined maximum maintenance loan and grant available to English students living away from home starting courses in September 2015.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The social care precept created in the 2015 Spending Review works by giving local authorities the flexibility to raise council tax in their area by up to 2 per cent above the existing threshold. If all local authorities used this to its maximum effect it could help raise nearly £2 billion a year by 2019-20. In 2016-17 144 out of 152 (95 per cent) adult social care authorities took up the precept raising £382 million extra for social care this year. The core spending power tables published alongside the Local Government Finance Settlement provide set out estimates of how much each council might raise in later years, and an explanatory note sets out the assumptions that these are based on.</p><p /> more like this
