answer text

The 2011 census found that there were 579,121 Polish nationals resident in the UK at that time of polling. There is no data available on the exact contribution of Polish immigrants to UK GDP since 2010 - it is extremely complex to isolate the contribution of just one group of people to GDP, given the wide variety of economic activity that they will be involved in.

However, many economists believe that Polish migrants have had a positive impact on the UK economy since 2004 as they tend to be of working age when they arrive and contribute more to the economy through taxes and consumption than they take out via public services.

By broad industry definitions, Polish nationals work across all industries but are most often found in Manufacturing and Distribution, Hotels and Restaurants. By standard occupation definitions, Polish nationals are found in all occupational areas but are most often in skilled trades, process, plant and machine operative occupations and elementary occupations.

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) found that the primary driver for determining an individual's fiscal contribution is whether they are in employment. The latest Labour Force survey data for January to March 2014 states that the unemployment rate amongst Polish nationals was 6.2%, lower than the UK average of 6.6%.

answer text
(1) The most recent analysis of the number of homes within each Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) band that this Department has is the 2016 English Housing Survey which estimated that over 7 million dwellings in England had an energy efficiency rating of A to C, over 15.5 million dwellings were rated C to D and over 1.1 million dwellings were rated F to G.

(2) This Department does not hold any information on the amount by which annual CO2 emissions would be reduced if every home within each rating band were to be improved to the next rating band level. However, the Government’s Clean Growth Strategy estimated that upgrading energy efficiency from an EPC Band E to an EPC Band D reduces energy costs by £380 per year on average.
more like this

The provisions are well known in the agriculture industry and stem from protections that have been in place since 1958.

Within the last ten years, (since 01/04/2013), under the Prevention of Accidents to Children in Agriculture Regulations 1998, HSE have:

Issued 23 Prohibition Notices

Approved 2 Prosecution Cases (one resulting in a Guilty verdict)

If followed, the Regulations are effective at controlling farm related risk to children under 13 years of age riding on farm machinery. The broader legislation relevant to the protection of children is:

The Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 (HSWA) which sets out a clear general duty to protect all those not at work who might be affected by the undertaking, and

The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations (MHSWR) which require assessment and management of all risks in or from a work activity and specifically that young people are not exposed to risk due to their lack of experience, being unaware of existing or potential risks and/or lack of maturity.

HSE continues to monitor the legislative framework for the control of risk to children in agriculture and considers the legal provisions are sufficient to allow HSE to take proportionate enforcement action where necessary.

The latest statistics published in March 2023 are for the financial period 2021/22.

This Government has overseen significant falls in absolute poverty since 2009/10. There were 1.7 million fewer people in absolute low income (60% of median income) after housing costs in 2021/22 compared to 2009/10, a 4 percentage-point decrease. This includes 400,000 children, 1 million working age individuals and 200,000 pensioners.

The Government is committed to a sustainable, long-term approach to tackling poverty and supporting people on lower incomes. In 2023/24 we will spend around £276 billion through the welfare system in Great Britain including £114 billion on people of working age and children.

The Government understands the pressures people are facing, which is why we are providing total support of over £94bn over 2022-23 and 2023-24 to help households and individuals with the rising cost of living.

For the 2023/24 financial year this includes additional Cost of Living Payments for more than 8 million households on means-tested benefits, 6 million people on disability benefits, and 8 million pensioner households across the UK. The government is maintaining the Energy Price Guarantee at £2,500 until the end of June. This will ensure that households across the UK are supported through the spring while retail energy costs are expected to remain high.

For people who require additional support, whether they receive benefits or not, the Household Support Fund will continue until March 2024. This year long extension allows Local Authorities in England to continue to provide discretionary support to those most in need with the significantly rising cost of living. The Devolved Administrations will receive consequential funding as usual to spend at their discretion.
