While US economic sanctions were lifted in late 2017, Sudan remains a challenging place to do business. The economic situation has been exacerbated by a shortage of foreign exchange which has resulted in fuel shortages. Sudan is still unable to access international financial assistance, in part due to its arrears to the International Monetary Fund and others and the failure to service its debt. Politically, the UK continues to work with the Government of Sudan to ensure that constitutional and political rights are respected. Sudan remains a Human Rights Priority Country for the Foreign & Commonwealth Office. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 26/11/2018 answer text <p>hile we acknowledge that working in fragile and conflict-affected countries carries risks, DFID has robust and extensive controls in place to ensure that tax payers’ funds are used appropriately and effectively; that UK aid reaches those who need it and that it does not benefit extremist groups, such as Ha’yat Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS). DFID does not provide funding unless our NGO and UN partners can assure us that it will not benefit extremist groups, and we will withdraw support if there is reason to believe UK tax payer’s money may be at risk. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 14/12/2018 answer text <p>Yemen’s recent economic crisis is one of the biggest risks threatening to tip Yemen into famine, with the Yemeni Riyal losing over 40% of its value between June and October.</p><p>The UK’s immediate leadership at the height of the economic crisis in October prevented a worsening of the situation. We worked with the Central Bank of Yemen in releasing $270 million of hard currency, provided by Saudi Arabia, to support importers bringing food staples into the country.</p><p>We also successfully pressed for the suspension of unnecessary processes introduced by the Government of Yemen in bringing these goods into the country. This has eased the pressure of price increases and temporarily stabilised the currency - the value of the Riyal has since appreciated, rising from 755 YER per USD to 500 YER per USD.</p><p>However, much more remains to be done. The Government is committed to producing an inclusive, credible, and robust report which will be presented at the UN High Level Political Forum in July 2019. We expect to publish the report shortly before then.</p><p> </p><p>We are inviting input from a wide range of stakeholders, including representatives of civil society and businesses, to tell us how they are contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals via our Voluntary National Review website, <a href="http://www.,ov.uk/sustainabledevelopmentgoals" target="_blank">www.gov.uk/sustainabledevelopmentgoals</a>.
