	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 26/10/2015 answer text <br /><p>The Rana Plaza disaster demonstrated the need for a concerted effort by all stakeholders to address the challenges facing the garments industry in Bangladesh. As well as establishing 2 international initiatives (the Accord and the Alliance), The International Labour Organisation (ILO) worked with the Government of Bangladesh (GoB), employer organisations, and trade union representatives to develop the Tripartite National Plan of Action on Fire Safety and Structural Integrity (NTPA) and in 2014 the Government raised the minimum wage for the country’s garment workers by 77%.</p><p>The Accord has been established as a voluntary, independent, legally binding agreement between Trade Unions and brands: we, and the many stakeholders involved, believe this is a more effective mechanism than making it mandatory. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 11/09/2014 answer text <p> </p><p>The Department for International Development is reducing expenditure on gas through various measures including the installation of a green roof and biomass boiler at our office in Scotland; we have also improved the external fabric of the building reducing heat loss. We have reduced electricity use through reducing the number of IT servers, printers and by upgrading all laptops and PCs to models which use at least 50% less electricity. A reduction in plant operation times and wider temperature control at both UK sites has resulted in significant savings in both gas and electricity. Recent changes to the Companies Act have strengthened requirements for company reporting to include these issues.</p><p> </p><p>DFID has developed a package of activities - including engagement with clothing retailers - to address unsafe working conditions in the garment sector in Bangladesh, following the Rana Plaza disaster in 2013, which will have wider benefits.
