star this property answer text <p>The Government has repeatedly raised our concerns on this issue with the Israeli authorities. I did so personally during my visit to Israel and subsequently.</p><p>In all but the most exceptional of circumstances demolitions and evictions are contrary to International Humanitarian Law. The practice causes unnecessary suffering to ordinary Palestinians and is harmful to the peace process.</p><p>Our firm position is evidenced by our support for Palestinians facing demolition or eviction through our legal aid programme, which helps residents challenge decisions in the Israeli legal system.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>DFID’s people-to-people programme builds support for peace by bringing together Palestinians and Israelis to promote tolerance and work on shared problems.</p><p>So far, over 1,200 young Israelis and Palestinians have taken part in holy site tours aimed at increasing understanding of religious tolerance. Ultimately the only way to achieve peace is through a negotiated two-state solution.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The UK’s national action plan on tackling antimicrobial resistance (AMR) sets out challenging five-year ambitions that begin to fulfil the UK’s vision for a world in which AMR is contained and controlled by 2040. DFID and the Department for Health and Social Care are working closely together on tackling AMR and senior officials have met on this issue.</p><p> </p><p>As part of tackling AMR, DFID continues to support health and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) programmes which emphasise the importance of improving infection control, and WASH in health facilities, which is key for the prevention of infections and antimicrobial resistance. The UK is committed to supporting countries achieve the Sustainable Development Goal 6 target of universal access to water and sanitation by 2030.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The UK welcomes recent efforts by both parties to constructively engage with the UN Special Envoy Martin Griffiths to implement the Stockholm agreements, including sharing Hodeidah port revenues for the payment of public salaries.</p><p> </p><p>Together with the international community, the UK is working with the Government of Yemen’s Prime Minister’s Office and the Central Bank of Yemen to develop a plan to sustainably finance the Stockholm agreement’s ambition for the payment of public sector salaries across Yemen, through an accountable budgetary process.</p><p> </p><p>We welcome the Government of Yemen’s leadership of paying salaries to some health workers in Houthi-controlled areas and all public workers in Hodeidah this year. We encourage this to continue which will be vital in restoring key services such as schools and health clinics and boosting the livelihoods of public-sector workers.</p> more like this

In 2019/20 DFID will provide £16 million in humanitarian assistance to Gaza, which will help support the health system, including improved trauma care, and contribute to emergency food aid for around 1.2 million vulnerable people.</p><p>To help address the underlying causes of the humanitarian situation we are investing to build the capacity of Gaza’s water and energy services and to address barriers to trade. Ultimately, Gaza’s immense challenges can only be resolved with a political solution that delivers peace, stability and the easing of movement and access restrictions.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The UK Government has been a global leader on nutrition since we hosted the first Nutrition for Growth Summit in 2013.</p><p> </p><p>Earlier this month the Secretary of State for International Development committed to prioritise ending preventable deaths of mothers, new-born babies and children in the developing world by 2030. Addressing malnutrition is critical and central to this ambition. Improving nutrition in developing countries is also key for achieving at least 12 of the Sustainable Development Goals.</p><p> </p><p>Since 2015 DFID has reached 60 million women, adolescent girls and young children with nutrition services – including lifesaving treatment for child wasting, support for breastfeeding and new crop varieties that are rich in essential nutrients.</p><p> </p><p>We are working with the Government of Japan to help prepare for the Nutrition for Growth Summit in December 2020. The Summit will be an important opportunity to set the world on the path towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goal target to end malnutrition in all its forms by 2030.</p><p> </p><p>We will be looking closely over the coming months at what further commitment the UK can make at the 2020 Summit to contribute to this important goal.</p>
