DFID and the Department for Health and Social Care are working closely together on tackling AMR and senior officials have met on this issue.</p><p> </p><p>As part of tackling AMR, DFID continues to support health and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) programmes which emphasise the importance of improving infection control, and WASH in health facilities, which is key for the prevention of infections and antimicrobial resistance. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 14/06/2019 answer text <p>The UK welcomes recent efforts by both parties to constructively engage with the UN Special Envoy Martin Griffiths to implement the Stockholm agreements, including sharing Hodeidah port revenues for the payment of public salaries.</p><p> </p><p>Together with the international community, the UK is working with the Government of Yemen’s Prime Minister’s Office and the Central Bank of Yemen to develop a plan to sustainably finance the Stockholm agreement’s ambition for the payment of public sector salaries across Yemen, through an accountable budgetary process.</p><p> </p><p>We welcome the Government of Yemen’s leadership of paying salaries to some health workers in Houthi-controlled areas and all public workers in Hodeidah this year. We continue to urge the Israeli and Palestinian leadership to avoid engaging in or encouraging any type of action and language that makes it more difficult to achieve a negotiated solution to the conflict. Officials are looking into the specific allegation raised.</p><p> </p><p>Our partnership with the Palestinian Authority (PA) includes a commitment from the Palestinian leadership to adhere to the principle of non-violence and to tackle language and avoid actions that could incite violence or hatred. The March 2019 assessment of the terms of the 2018-19 Memorandum of Understanding found that the PA continues to demonstrate a credible commitment to DFID’s ‘partnership principles’, including the principles of non-violence, under increasingly volatile conditions. As in other parts of the world where DFID works, this does not mean that we agree on all of the government or authority’s policies or actions – but rather that there is a credible foundation on which to work to tackle poverty and work towards the Sustainable Development Goals. The EU vets the list of PA health and education sector employees before every disbursement of financial aid to ensure only eligible beneficiaries receive UK aid, at a range of grades based on the PA payroll system. These payments are then independently audited. The average salary and number of employees earning in excess of 2,000 NIS per month who receive UK aid therefore could change each time a disbursement is made. Last financial year (2018/19), for example, we <del class="ministerial">provided</del> <ins class="ministerial">contributed to the provision of </ins>food assistance to over 490,000 internally displaced people (IDPs) and since June 2017 we have helped over 40,000 IDPs receive psychosocial support and provided over 35,000 with life-saving health care.</p><p> </p><p>The UK has also supported the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to provide primary healthcare and mental health services, legal assistance, child protection and support to survivors of gender-based violence. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 05/06/2019 answer text <p>The UK is deeply concerned about the rise in cholera in Yemen this year, with a suspected 300,000 cases recorded between January and April 2019. In response, the UK rapidly disbursed £18 million last month to the UN’s pooled fund and UNICEF to help tackle the issue. We have seen a decline in suspected cholera cases in the last five weeks and hope this continues.</p><p>To help prepare for outbreaks of cholera, the UK is leading a joint Met Office, NASA and US scientist team to accurately predict where the disease will spread to in Yemen. In Afghanistan GPEI are working to reach mobile populations where children have been chronically missed by vaccination campaigns. In Nigeria activities are focussed on trying to reach all children with vaccinations to close immunity gaps that allow polio to remain.</p><p> </p><p>The UK are observers on the Polio Oversight Board and represent all state donors on the Strategy Committee, which gives us a position from which to influence the activities of the fund at a strategic level.
