The handling and sharing of personal data is primarily governed by the Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA), which establishes a legal framework of rights and obligations that protect individuals’ personal information.</p><p> </p><p>The Information Commissioner’s Office, who is the independent regulatory body responsible for enforcing the DPA in the UK, has produced the guidance for the general public on such matters.
