We remain committed to the principle and the right of the Falkland Islanders of self-determination. They expressed their wish to remain a self-governing overseas territory of the UK in 2013. There can be no dialogue on sovereignty unless the Falkland Islanders so wish. In continuing to push its claim over the Falkland Island, Argentina is entirely disregarding the people who live there and their right of self-determination.
more like this

The Nicaraguan government also broke off diplomatic relations with the Netherlands on 30 September. The ongoing deterioration of political and human rights in Nicaragua is a very serious matter, and we regularly underline our concerns directly with the Nicaraguan government and in multilateral fora. Under the Nicaragua Sanctions regime, we have imposed travel bans and asset freezes on several senior regime figures, including the Vice President, two Directors General of the National Police and the President of the National Assembly. We continue to consider how, with partners, we maintain pressure on the regime and urge it to comply with international human rights law and respect human rights.
more like this

Whilst the former Foreign Secretary has not discussed this specific case with the Mexican Foreign Minister, we continue to engage regularly with Mexican authorities at ministerial, official, and state level on a range of human rights issues in Mexico, including media freedom. Mexico's agreement to establish a bilateral human rights dialogue is a welcome step and, Minister Ford discussed human rights with the Mexican Deputy Foreign Minister in June. We work closely with civil society organisations on understanding and reducing the risks faced by journalists and human rights defenders. On 7th June, the FCDO's Media Freedom Coordinator participated in a consultation panel organised by UNESCO and the Mexican Government to establish a new National Prevention and Protection System for human rights defenders and journalists.
