answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 27/02/2015 answer text <p>DFID’s Peacebuilding Support Programme supports the provincial Government to deliver improved security and justice to 250,000 citizens in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). It focuses on strengthening civilian security (police, prosecutions, prisons) and the formal and informal justice sectors. DFID also contributes to a Multi Donor Trust Fund supporting areas of KP affected by militancy and conflict. It helps improve state-citizen trust and reduce the root causes of insecurity through improved infrastructure, economic development and service delivery.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>UK aid to Pakistan also addresses the conditions that might breed violent extremism by reducing poverty, meeting basic needs, increasing economic opportunities and promoting inclusion. UK counter-terrorism assistance to Pakistan has focussed on protecting civilians, strengthening rule of law and developing civilian counter-terrorism institutions.</p><p>We continue to monitor the political situation in Pakistan closely. Lord (Tariq) Ahmad of Wimbledon, Minister for South Asia, spoke with the caretaker Foreign Minister Jalil Jilani on 12 September, to emphasise the importance of peaceful democratic processes and human rights. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 05/09/2014 answer text <p>Work to combat violence and discrimination against Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) people forms an important part of our wider international human rights work. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office works through our Embassies and High Commissions, and through international organisations, including the Commonwealth, the EU and the UN, to promote tolerance and non-discrimination against LGBT people and to address discriminatory laws, in particular those that criminalise homosexuality. <br> <br>The UK has been a member of the LGBT core group in Geneva since 2011, playing a key role in passing the UN’s first ever resolution on LGBT rights and recently joined its counterpart group in New York.</p><p>Within the Commonwealth we continue to encourage the Secretariat and the Secretary-General to do more to promote the rights of its LGBT people. It remains one of our priority countries for counter-terrorism work. A major part of this effort is dedicated to working with Pakistanis to reduce the threat from violent extremism and to build their capacity to deal with it. This requires a determined security response, but also investment in education, tackling poverty, and confronting the extremist narrative.</p><p>Alongside this we have pledged further assistance, including UK strategic expertise, capacity development to improve detection and disruption of improvised explosive devices, support with developing effective approaches to Countering Violent Extremism and infrastructure security. It is our longstanding policy to oppose the death penalty in all circumstances as a matter of principle.
