Sanctions are designed to impose a cost for Russia’s actions in Ukraine, deter further escalation of this crisis, and support the wider diplomatic effort. EU measures already announced have exacerbated negative trends in Russia’s economy; capital flight in the first half of 2014 was greater than for the whole of 2013; and we have seen a significant reduction in expected growth. Russian access to western financial markets will be severely constrained as lenders consider the risks of Russian exposure in the current climate. The strengthening of sanctions should signal clearly to the Russian leadership that their policy of trying to destabilise Ukraine will have a cost for the Russian economy. The EU’s measures have in-built review mechanisms. At this meeting, he emphasised the importance of regional coordination between Nigeria and its neighbours in defeating Boko Haram and locating the girls. It is not yet clear what impact the recently announced ceasefire between the Nigerian security forces and Boko Haram might have on the missing Chibok girls. Latest statistics show that since the launch of NEA in 2011 to the end of March 2014, there were 46,000 allowance claims, of which 15,720 were from women. The weekly allowance is payable when the participant closes their claim to benefits and commences trading. The rate of take up of NEA by women is approximately one third of the total. EU sanctions are in direct response to Russia's illegal annexation of Crimea, with the option of increasingly severe restrictive measures if Russia does not desist from its policies to destabilise Ukraine and support separatists in the east. By imposing sanctions, we have demonstrated our willingness to use economic levers to influence Russia’s behaviour. We have no wish to isolate Russia, nor to see the Russian people suffer as a result of the unlawful actions of their leaders. It shows that the Y-shaped network including the connections to the West Coast Main Line at both Crewe and Golborne is expected to deliver around £2.30 of benefits (including Wider Economic Impacts) for every £1 spent. The Department has not estimated the case for the Y-shaped route for High Speed 2 without these connections. However, HS2 Ltd examined the possibility of only linking High Speed 2 to the West Coast Main Line at Crewe, and eliminating the junction at Golborne. They identified significant constraints in the West Coast Main Line north of Crewe and additional works would be required here as the line is intensively used by fast long-distance services, slower stopping trains and freight, causing significant timetabling constraints. Taking into account the levels of growth being experienced to date, both in terms of passenger and freight traffic, the West Coast Main Line would not be able to cope with the overall volume of services required. He noted the UK’s disappointment over Bangladesh’s parliamentary election in January 2014 with more than half of constituencies uncontested. Friend the Member for Bournemouth East (Mr Ellwood), raised strong concerns over the plans to move the Bedouin population from Area C with the Israeli Justice Minister on 6 October during his visit to Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories between 5-8 October The issue was also raised by officials from our Embassy in Tel Aviv in meetings with senior officials in the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Israeli Prime Minister's Office. We regularly make clear, publicly and privately, to Israel our serious concerns about the actual or threatened demolition of Palestinian homes and infrastructure in the West Bank, and the need for a planning process that adequately addresses the needs of Palestinian communities. Demolitions cause unnecessary suffering to ordinary Palestinians; are harmful to the peace process; and are, in all but the most exceptional of cases, contrary to international humanitarian law. The Fourth Geneva Convention is clear that the destruction of any real or personal property in Occupied Territory is not justified unless it is rendered absolutely necessary by military operations. They set out rules for maritime activities, by defining certain maritime activity zones and what could take place in them, including but not limited to setting the 20 nautical mile fishing limit. Off the coast of Gaza, Marine 1/Gaza Marine lies entirely within the control of the Palestinian Authority.
