answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 20/07/2017 answer text <p>In 2016 the Government announced a review of Gaming Machines and Social responsibility, which includes fixed odds betting terminals, and launched a call for evidence. As part of the ongoing work on the review the Department has considered research and evidence from a variety of external sources, as well as the responses received to the call for evidence.</p><p> </p><p>The RGSB was set up by the Gambling Commission to advise on priorities for research relating to responsible gambling. GambleAware, an independent charity, leads on commissioning and funding research into gambling-related harm and supporting education and treatment programmes, taking into account the priorities set out by the RGSB. All gambling licence holders are required to make an annual financial contribution to one or more organisations that perform research, education or treatment for gambling-related harm, and most chose to support GambleAware.</p><p> </p><p>GambleAware has published a number of research reports into fixed odds betting terminals since 2010. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 07/09/2017 answer text <p>The Government is alive to the concerns around the clustering of betting shops. Since 2015, planning permission has been required for any new betting shops on the high street. In addition, the Gambling Act 2005 requires local authorities to set out in a statement of policy the principles by which they manage the gambling environment in the local area. The statement can be used to set out reasons for why it would be inconsistent with licensing objectives to grant additional licences in a given location e.g. safeguarding children or the vulnerable. The Gambling Commission is responsible for ensuring that operators adhere to these requirements. The review of gaming machines and social responsibility measures that I announced in October 2016 includes a close look at the regulation of Fixed Odds Betting Terminals (FOBTs).
