By 2050 we want almost every car and van in the UK to be zero emission. We will end the sale of new conventional petrol and diesel cars and vans by 2040.</p><p> </p><p>The Government’s 2018 Road to Zero Strategy sets out a clear pathway to achieving this, to give clarity and certainty to both industry and motorists. Our Road to Zero Strategy sets out a clear pathway to zero emissions, to give clarity and certainty to both industry and motorists. In 2018 the UK was the second largest market for ultra-low emission vehicles in the EU. This adds up to one of the most comprehensive support packages in the world for the transition to zero emission vehicles.</p><p> </p><p>On 4 February, the Prime Minister announced our intention to consult on bringing forward ending the sale of new petrol and diesel cars and vans from 2040 to 2035, or earlier if a faster transition appears feasible, as well as including hybrids for the first time. Ahead of that, a call for engagement, setting the scale of the challenge, will include the department’s forecasts of emissions based on current policies. We already recognise the need to go further than current plans, as shown by the announcement earlier this month on new cars and vans.</p><p>In that announcement, the Prime Minister set out a consultation on bringing forward the end to the sale of new petrol and diesel vehicles to 2035, or earlier if a faster transition appears feasible. This reflects the advice from the Committee on Climate Change – to make sure that the UK meets its net zero by 2050 commitments. The consultation’s purpose will be to identify what the accompanying package of support will need to be to enable the transition and minimise the impacts on consumers and businesses across the UK, building on the significant demand and supply side measures already in place. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 12/07/2019 answer text <p>Government grants for plug-in cars, vans, taxis and motorcycles will be available until at least 2020, reducing the upfront purchase price of electric vehicles. The plug-in car grant was first introduced in 2011 and the other schemes in the years since. Purchasers of ultra-low-emission vehicles also receive other benefits, including lower tax rates and grants towards the installation of charge-points. A number of local authorities also provide additional incentives, such as free parking or exemption from the congestion charge. We stated in our Road to Zero strategy that consumer incentives in some form will continue to play a role beyond 2020. We also set out ambitions for the uptake of ultra-low-emission vehicles in the UK. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 06/11/2017 answer text <p>It is a matter for airport operators, the companies that provide operational ground support at airports, and the specialist vehicle manufacturers to work together to determine how best to introduce ultra low emission vehicles into their airport based vehicle fleets.</p><p> </p><p>Airports operators are able to take advantage of the Office for Low Emission Vehicle’s Plug in Car Grant which offers up to £4,500 off the cost of an eligible vehicle, the Plug in Van Grant which offers a grant of up to £8,000, and which has been extended to up to £20,000 for the first 200 of the largest vehicles and the Work Place Charging Scheme which offers £300 for each of up to twenty sockets for recharging vehicles.</p><p> </p><p>Gatwick has signed up to the Go Ultra Low Companies initiative with participating companies committing to 5% of their fleet being electric vehicles by 2020. However, all local authorities with levels of NO2 exceedance must achieve legal compliance in the shortest possible time.
