For example, someone who is making short journeys, mostly in towns, might find an electric car better suited to their needs than a larger diesel car. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 05/02/2018 answer text <p>All vehicles must meet strict emission standards before they enter use and emissions from private cars are then checked at the annual MoT for cars of 3 years age and older.</p><p> </p><p>Smoky lorries and buses can be reported by telephone via DVSA’s national number, online via GOV.UK or by sending an email. DVSA will then send a letter to the registered keeper of the vehicle as recorded on the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency’s database. The letter is also copied to the remote enforcement office at DVSA. The operator is then required to undergo an emissions test and submit the results to DVSA’s enforcement team.</p><p> </p><p>The Government currently has no plans to extend the ability to report suspected excessive lorry and bus exhaust emissions to private cars and motorcycles. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 22/01/2016 answer text <p>Action taken by the Vehicle Certification Agency is below;</p><br /><p>In the last 10 years, two models failed the tests. They were:</p><br /><ul><li>Mitsubishi Carisma Petrol Euro III (2005/2006 test)</li><li>BMW Mini One D (2008/2009 test)</li></ul><br /><p>In-service testing requires a minimum of three tests in order to achieve meaningful statistical results, although up to 20 vehicles may need to be tested. Where a fail decision is reached the series production is deemed to have failed, and the Approval Authority for the vehicle should be contacted to inform them of the test result.</p><br /><p>In the Case of BMW Mini the KBA (German approval authority) were informed to enable them to take action. In the case of the Mitsubishi the manufacturer was contacted directly and a number of anomalies were found with the test vehicle that could account for the failed result. In this case, the approval authority was again the KBA.
