answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 28/10/2014 answer text <p>I receive regular representations on many issues including the role of women in public life.</p><p>We are removing barriers that prevent women from progressing in public life. For example, the Government has established the Centre for Public Appointments (CPA) in the Cabinet Office to ensure best practice is followed. As a result, the proportion of new female appointees to public boards has increased to 39%. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 04/10/2019 answer text <p>Political parties are responsible for greater diversity amongst their candidates.</p><p> </p><p>The Government is working with them to better support their disabled candidates. Whilst this is ongoing we launched the £250,000 interim EnAble Fund. The fund supported around 40 disabled candidates in the local elections in May. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 02/02/2016 answer text <p>I am working closely with the Cabinet Office to modernise recruitment practices and attract a more diverse field of candidates from an ever-wider range of social and professional backgrounds.</p><p>This includes engaging with government departments, the private sector and a range of different diversity networks and groups. We have engaged with them through online advertising, social media and at events to promote and raise awareness of public appointments and better understand the barriers or concerns for those considering a public appointment.</p><p>The most recent figures published show that we are making real, consistent, progress in increasing the number of public appointments going to women.
