	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 24/03/2014 answer text <p>As part of the reforms to the national curriculum, the Department for Education is strengthening the teaching of computing in schools by replacing information and communications technology with computing. The new programmes of study for computing, which will be taught in maintained schools from September 2014, have a much greater emphasis on computer science. For example, pupils at key stage 1 will be taught to create and debug simple programs and key stage 3 pupils will be taught to use two or more programming languages.</p><p>We also working with exam boards and sector experts to review the computer science GCSE and A level so that they reflect and build upon the changes made to the curriculum. The inclusion of computer science in the English Baccalaureate will provide further encouragement for pupils to take up the subject at GCSE level. We are also providing funding for several projects to help teachers acquire the necessary subject knowledge and skills to teach the new computing curriculum.</p><p>We are funding the British Computer Society to build a network of 400 ‘Master Teachers', create online teach-yourself resources and deliver 800 in-school workshops to help primary school teachers improve their subject knowledge. Positive effects on pedagogy cited within the studies considered include: improvemements to lessons and homework, characterised by more creative and engaging tasks; more and better quality feedback to pupils; and improvements in monitoring and assessment.</p><p>The Department will continue to review international research in this area, such as that being undertaken by the Creative Classroom project of the European Schoolnet organisation. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 14/07/2014 answer text <p>The Government has made preventing and tackling bullying in primary and secondary schools one of its top priorities by striking a balance between schools' legal requirements, freedom and accountability.</p><p> </p><p>All schools must have a behaviour policy with measures to prevent all forms of bullying among pupils, including that which occurs online. Schools have the freedom to shape these measures in the context of their pupils' needs. They are held to account by Ofsted for their effectiveness in preventing bullying, harassment and discrimination.</p><p> </p><p>Through the Education Act 2011, we strengthened teachers' powers to discipline pupils for poor behaviour, including bullying. They can now issue same day detentions, confiscate banned items and search for, and if necessary delete, inappropriate images on mobile phones which might be linked to cyberbullying. This advice was updated in February 2014 to make clear that tough but proportionate sanctions can be deployed to deal with misbehaviour, which includes bullying. This contains advice that makes clear that schools should make appropriate provision for a bullied child's social, emotional and mental health needs. The case studies give real life examples of what schools do to identify and respond to bullying. For the first time, schools will be legally required to teach <br> e-safety to pupils in infant and junior schools.
