star this property answer text We are concerned at reports of detentions in relation to the 25th anniversary of Tiananmen Square and raised our concerns about this with the Chinese authorities during the UK-China Human Rights Dialogue on 20 May. The Minister of State, my Rt. Hon. Friend the Member for East Devon (Mr Swire), raised this issue with the Chinese authorities on 19 May and made a statement on this issue on 21 May. We also fully support the EU statement of 28 May calling for the release of all those imprisoned for the peaceful expression of their views. We were pleased to see that on 5 June, the Chinese authorities released a number of those arrested after attending an event to commemorate the Tiananmen Square incident in 1989. more like this

That is why we have introduced schemes such as Help to Buy Equity Loan and Mortgage Guarantee, and reinvigorated Right to Buy. Since the spring of 2010, these, together with our affordable housing schemes have helped or are helping nearly 112,000 people to buy a home of their own. star this property answer text
Young people need better work-related learning to prepare for employment. This is one of the reasons why the Department for Education introduced work experience as part of the new 16-19 Study Programmes and Traineeships from August 2013. Schools may also include teaching about enterprise and entrepreneurship as part of their personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) education. The PSHE Association has produced a suggested programme of study as guidance for teachers which includes reference to enterprise, and continues to highlight other sources of expertise.

The new post-16 funding flexibilities provide an opportunity for schools and colleges to promote enterprise and entrepreneurial skills as part of students’ non-qualification activities. By working with local employers, schools and colleges can help students improve their skills and employability.

Many schools already run the Young Enterprise scheme, which is the UK’s largest business and enterprise education charity. Every year it helps 250,000 young people learn about business and the world of work in the classroom.

In line with our approach to giving schools in England greater freedom, we believe that it should be for headteachers to decide how to provide a library service for their pupils. Many headteachers recognise the role libraries can play in improving young people's literacy and ensure that suitable library facilities are provided.
more like this

star this property answer text
Tourism is a devolved matter, and domestic holiday marketing to British residents is carried out by the tourist boards of each constituent part of the United Kingdom. Nevertheless, VisitEngland’s ‘Holidays at Home are GREAT’ campaigns have also benefited the Devolved Administrations by promoting domestic holidays throughout the United Kingdom, not just in England. The campaign, now in its third year, has received £9.3 million funding from the Government, which has been match-funded by the private sector and other tourism partners. These campaigns have been promoted through various media channels including mainstream terrestrial channels, cinemas and via the web. The first two campaigns generated £380m in extra visitor spend, and the current campaign has been marketed through media channels since 1 April 2014. VisitEngland’s Growing Tourism Locally programme, which received £19.8 million from the Government’s Regional Growth Fund, specifically aims to inspire UK residents to take more holidays in England.
