star this property answer text
The Government policy is that all workers in the UK are paid the statutory National Minimum Wage or National Living Wage. This is based on the advice of the Low Pay Commission. In April 2019, the National Living Wage increased to £8.21 per hour, handing a full-time worker a further £690 annual pay rise. By 2024 the National Living Wage will rise to £10.50 per hour, reaching 66% of median UK earnings. The scope will be expanded to everyone aged 21 and over and is expected to benefit over 4 million low paid workers.

more like this

star this property answer text
This government is committed to paying people a decent living wage, which is being addressed through the statutory National Living Wage.

Pay for grades below the Senior Civil Service is delegated to departments to determine and they will of course comply with the statutory National Living Wage. As at 31 March 2019, almost 46,000 (~11%) of civil servants earn below the Living Wage Foundation’s living wage (for those based outside of London) or London living wage (for those based inside London). It is not possible to provide a detailed breakdown by department and these estimates may differ from those calculated by departments using their internal data.

The 46,000 civil servants that earn below the voluntary living wage rates is an estimate using a range of data sources, as not all the required information is held centrally. star this property answer text
The Government Digital Service (GDS) and the wider Cabinet Office take their responsibilities in relation to the handling of data extremely seriously. We always take into account both the data protection regime and other guidance like the Government’s Data Ethics Framework.

Different types of data and information are stored in different ways in accordance with our information assurance policies. In relation to the specific project to join up performance analytics across the GOV.UK estate, GDS has created a separate account within its existing Google Analytics account to hold the anonymised performance data collected from GOV.UK services managed by other government departments. Data within the two accounts is not linked together.

Currently Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) cleared personnel working on the project have access to this anonymised data. BPSS is the minimum required security clearance, and access is granted on a case-by-case basis to further ensure that only appropriate people have access to the data. Data is stored in an encrypted format when it is in transit between service systems and the centralised Google Analytics account, and when stored in the account data store. These measures, together with GDS’s secure by default approach ensure that no data will leave the Cabinet Office by accident or malicious intent.
