star this property answer text <p>We do not hold financial data in the format requested prior to 2015/16.</p><p> </p><p>Investment in National Health Service mental health services has been increasing over the years for which data are available. In 2015/16, expenditure on mental health including learning disabilities and dementia by clinical commissioning groups and NHS England and NHS Improvement was £11 billion. In 2019/20, this had risen to £13.3 billion. We are continuing to invest in expanding and transforming mental health services through the NHS Long Term Plan, with funding rising by an additional £2.3 billion a year by 2023/24.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Improving mental health is at the heart of this Government’s agenda and capital investment to modernise the mental health estate is a key part of the Government’s ambition to achieve greater parity between physical and mental health care.</p><p>As is the case for all National Health Service providers, the majority of capital expenditure by NHS mental health providers is financed from their own income sources and not provided centrally by the Department, but this is supplemented by national programmes of capital investment. The Government has announced investments of over £400 million in improving mental health estate since July 2017, and as set out in the Health infrastructure Plan on 30 September 2019, the Government is committed to making further strategic investments to modernise mental health facilities, which will be confirmed when the Department receives a multiyear capital settlement at the next capital review.</p> more like this

Of this, £33.5 million has been allocated this year to mental health trusts for maintenance and £250 million has been allocated to remove dormitories, coming to 19% of the announcement.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>This year, £24 million is being invested into the Quality and Outcomes Framework in general practice to strengthen the severe mental illness physical health check indicator set. This includes an indicator on the percentage of patients with schizophrenia, bipolar affective disorder and other psychoses who have a comprehensive care plan documented in their records, in the preceding 12 months.</p><p>NHS England and NHS Improvement announced in June 2021 that an extra £40 million has been allocated to address the impact of COVID-19 on children and young people’s mental health and enhance services across the country. Funding of £79 million has already been made available to support children and young people’s mental health in the community, including via increased access to crisis and eating disorder services and new mental health support teams. By April 2023, there will be around 400 such teams.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>We have provided £10.2 million of grant funding to mental health charities to date, consisting of:</p><p> </p><p>- £5 million allocated to the Coronavirus Mental Health Response Fund, which has been distributed to the 134 organisations listed at the following link:</p><p> </p><p><a href="http://www.mind.org.uk/news-campaigns/campaigns/coronavirus-mental-health-response-fund/coronavirus-mental-health-response-fund-england#collapse8ae81" target="_blank">www.mind.org.uk/news-campaigns/campaigns/coronavirus-mental-health-response-fund/coronavirus-mental-health-response-fund-england#collapse8ae81</a>;</p><p> </p><p>- £4.2 million allocated to 10 charities from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport’s £750 million Coronavirus Voluntary and Community Sector Fund. Of this, the Coronavirus Mental Health Response Fund has been allocated an additional £230,000; and</p><p> </p><p>- £1 million, inspired by ITV’s Help Our Helplines campaign, that is still to be distributed through the Coronavirus Mental Health Response Fund over the coming weeks.</p><p> </p><p>Funding from the Coronavirus Mental Health Response Fund has been distributed to mental health charities by a grant competition led by Mind and the Mental Health Consortia. These grants are monitored by a governance group, which includes Departmental officials.</p>
