In line with this, the Department for International Trade’s (DIT) teams in Europe have increased their preparations for a no deal exit from the EU and have recommended that businesses enact their own no deal plans to ensure they are similarly prepared. DIT is also engaged with national and local governments, port authorities and other key stakeholders in Europe to minimise any disruption to supply chains.</p><p> </p><p>More widely, the DIT teams in Europe have been reassuring European businesses that the UK remains open for business; that we remain an advocate for free trade and open markets; and that the UK will continue to be an important trading partner for European businesses after we leave the EU. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 05/03/2019 answer text <p>It remains government policy to secure a deal with the EU but, in the event of a no deal, trade with the EU will become subject to customs controls as is the case now for trade with the rest of the world.</p><p> </p><p>Businesses will need to consider, based on their own circumstances, how they want to engage with the customs system in the future. Most currently choose to appoint a customs agent to make declarations for them, but they can also use commercial software to self-serve. Recognising business concerns, HMRC has introduced a number of temporary easements to help business and to maintain the flow of trade across borders. It includes technical notices on trade remedies, existing free trade agreements and UK trade tariffs after EU Exit. I will correspond directly with the noble Lord.</del></p><p><ins class="ministerial">The Government has not undertaken work to assess the impact should EU businesses decide to move supply chains away from the EU.</ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial">The Government is seeking a comprehensive, ambitious future partnership with the European Union including a best in class Free Trade Agreement. The UK and the EU have a long standing and close trading relationship, with our businesses operating across borders to service clients and customers in the UK and the EU. The new FTA will seek to create new benchmark for trade liberalization and economic co-operation. In the period since leaving the EU, the value of UK exports to the EU is back to pre-Covid levels. Latest figures published by the Office for National Statistics show that the UK total exports of goods and services to the EU were worth £330.2bn in the 12 months to September 2022. This support includes comprehensive guidance on GOV.UK, as well as a range of other supportive information, including recorded webinars and short explainer videos. HMRC has invested in building capacity and capability in the Customs &amp; International Trade Helpline and webchat service to ensure businesses who need additional support are able to access it promptly. Businesses can use this helpline service for assistance with UK customs enquiries via online, webchat, phone, and post. Support is also available to exporters via the Department for Business and Trade’s Export Support Service. This is a dedicated service to help more British businesses export and is a ‘one stop shop’ bringing together UK government information, making it easier for exporters to access advice and support.</p><p> </p><p>The Government is working with traders and businesses to simplify customs processes in order make it easier for them to import and export goods to and from the UK. HMT and HMRC recently announced the next steps on a package of improvements to streamline customs processes and reduce admin burdens for businesses. The announcement follows extensive consultation with industry on potential improvements to the UK customs system, first announced at Spring Budget 2023.
