star this property answer text <p>The Home Office does not hold this information centrally.</p><p>The Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986 lay down certain requirements that all vehicles have to meet strict emission standards and be constructed and maintained so as not to emit any avoidable smoke. It also governs the amount of light that must pass through the windows of a vehicle and therefore how clearly the windows can be seen through.</p><p>It is for the police to take enforcement action as they consider appropriate against those in breach of the Regulations.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The red rating in the report prepared for the Office of Rail &amp; Road (ORR) recognised the lack of available effective options (at that time) for mitigating poor air quality. Since then, Highways England have been undertaking an extensive programme of air quality research, and have identified large barriers, overhanging part of the carriageway, as a potentially effective measure.</p><p> </p><p>Highways England have also developed an outline implementation programme. Drawing on the Air Quality Designated Fund, based substantially on the provision of these barriers in specific locations.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Government is committed to reducing air pollution from all forms of transport, which has significantly reduced since 2010. Emissions of nitrogen oxides have fallen by 45% and emissions of PM2.5 by 10% since that date.</p><p>The DVSA Market Surveillance Unit will continue to conduct a vehicle-emissions testing programme to monitor vehicle emissions performance and address non-compliance where identified.</p><p>Since 2015, there have been 134 manufacturer recalls or non-code actions involving a total of 1.85 million vehicles to amend or upgrade emissions systems. Not all action will have been to address non-compliance.</p> more like this

I hold regular meetings with the company to press them on important matters including the progress of the technical ‘fixes’. On the 16<sup>th</sup> January Volkswagen informed me that they have applied ‘fixes’ to approximately 350,000 vehicles in the UK, and are currently implementing them at a rate of 20,000 a week.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>As referenced in the Net Zero Strategy, the Government has committed to introducing a Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Mandate, setting targets for a percentage of manufacturers’ new car and van sales to be zero emission each year, from 2024.</p><p> </p><p>The Government is currently analysing responses to the consultation, and will publish a full Government response in due course.</p><p> </p><p>Following publication of the Government’s response to the consultation, we will work to bring forward specific proposals. The first of these will most likely be in Spring 2022, with regulatory proposals for cars and vans.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The DVSA Market Surveillance Unit (MSU) conducts an annual emissions-testing programme to test vehicle emissions in the real world. Where MSU testing identifies non-compliant emissions, including suspicions of a prohibited defeat device, DVSA works with the manufacturer to implement improvement plans.</p><p> </p><p>The results of the MSU annual emissions-testing programme are made publicly available at <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/dvsa-vehicle-market-surveillance-unit" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/dvsa-vehicle-market-surveillance-unit</a>.</p><p> </p><p>Since 2015, there have been 134 manufacturer recalls or non-code actions involving a total of 1.85 million vehicles to amend or upgrade emissions systems. star this property answer text <p>The recent White Paper on the future relationship between the United Kingdom and the European Union sets out the UK’s proposal for a UK-EU free trade area, underpinned by a common rulebook on industrial goods. This covers all rules that set the requirements for placing a product on the market, including environmental requirements, as are necessary to provide for frictionless trade at the border. This would include the type approval system for all categories of motor vehicles and would ensure that the UK and the EU adhere to the same emission standards for cars, vans and heavy duty vehicles.</p><p> </p> more like this
