	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 16/11/2018 answer text <p>By setting long term ambitions for 2040 and 2050, the Government has sent a clear signal for the UK’s direction of travel to provide industry and consumers with certainty on the transition to zero emission vehicles. The Government’s Road to Zero strategy, published in July, set out that by 2030 we want to see at least 50% and as many as 70% of new car sales being ultra low emission, alongside up to 40% of new vans. We expect this transition to be industry and consumer led, supported in the coming years by the measures set out in the Road to Zero strategy.</p><p> </p><p>There is significant uncertainty over some of the key drivers of the transition – including battery technology and new mobility services. The Government will be actively tracking market developments, looking at key factors such as uptake of Ultra Low Emission Vehicles, deployment of infrastructure, and consumer issues. Since then, Highways England have been undertaking an extensive programme of air quality research, and have identified large barriers, overhanging part of the carriageway, as a potentially effective measure.</p><p> </p><p>Highways England have also developed an outline implementation programme. The Road to Zero Strategy sets out a clear pathway to zero emissions, to give clarity and certainty to both industry and motorists. By 2030 we want at least half of new cars sold, and as many as 70%, to be ultra low emission, alongside up to 40% of new vans. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 20/11/2014 answer text <p>The Government takes a leading role in EU negotiations on new car and van CO2 regulations which are the major driver of greenhouse gas emissions reductions in cars and vans. The UK fleet is currently ahead of these targets in terms CO2 reduction and emits 22% less CO2 than in 2007. Pollutant emissions (for example particulate matter and oxides of nitrogen (NOx)) are regulated by European (‘Euro’) Emission Standards standards.　 These have become increasingly stringent and delivered large reductions for most pollutants.　 Government’s focus is now achieving real world reductions of NOx for diesel vehicles as new standards are introduced (Euro 6 for cars and vans, Euro VI for buses and lorries). The Government is committed to making the UK a global leader in the design, manufacture and uptake of ultra low emission vehicles which address both carbon and air quality issues.
