star this property answer text <p>Between 1990 and 2023, provisional statistics show total greenhouse gas emissions from the buildings and product use sectors have fallen by an estimated 28%. However, in the same time period, emissions from commercial buildings have risen by 3% largely due to the use of natural gas for heating. To address this issue, the UK Government is working with industry to understand how to decarbonise commercial buildings in an affordable and appropriate manner, including through supporting energy efficiency improvements, developing the market for heat pumps, and developing heat network capacity. This approach is detailed in the Heat and Buildings Strategy, which can be accessed <a href="https://eur02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fassets.publishing.service.gov.uk%2Fmedia%2F61d450eb8fa8f54c14eb14e4%2F6.7408_BEIS_Clean_Heat_Heat___Buildings_Strategy_Stage_2_v5_WEB.pdf&amp;data=05%7C02%7CParliamentary.PQ%40energysecurity.gov.uk%7C7a7f1a2d7ad3479801ae08dc603b95f1%7Ccbac700502c143ebb497e6492d1b2dd8%7C0%7C0%7C638491056248036734%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=5oapttsYvNwBBFwFUGiydCG9LY6qLTQHVo%2BvIT2Bsh8%3D&amp;reserved=0" target="_blank">here.</a></p>
