Two were rejected at the time of implementation. Action to improve prison safety and security continues alongside reforms to overhaul the system to focus on the rehabilitation of offenders. We are tackling the supply and demand of drugs, drones and phones, which drive prison violence and undermine safety.</p><p>We are redoubling our efforts to address the record levels of self-harm. We have taken immediate action to strengthen the frontline. We have passed our target to recruit 2,500 extra prison officers, seven months ahead of schedule. Over 3,100 new staff are in post. Our central priority is of course to protect the public, ensuring that we have the right supervision of offenders in place, and that probation staff are supported in their important work.</p><p> </p><p>Working Links (Employment) Limited and its three Community Rehabilitation Companies (CRC): Wales CRC; Bristol, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire CRC; and Dorset, Devon and Cornwall CRC went into administration on 14 February 2019.</p><p> </p><p>As a part of its contingency approach to this pending event the MOJ undertook a competitive process inviting participation from all those CRCs that could take on the additional services in Wales and the South West without breaching the 25% Market Share Cap applied in the original Transforming Rehabilitation procurement in 2014. This led to the selection of Kent, Surrey and Sussex (KSS) CRC as our preferred provider with whom we then conducted detailed commercial negotiations prior to entering into contract on Friday 15 February.</p><p> </p><p>In line with plans for future probation delivery in Wales, we intend for offender management services in Wales to be transferred to HMPPS before the end of the current contractual period and we will work with KSS to accelerate this process. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 29/06/2020 answer text <p>We publish data on the number of incidents of self-harm recorded across the prison estate as part of our Safety in Custody statistics. Figures for the period up to 31<sup>st</sup> March 2020 will be published on 30th July 2020.</p><p>The most recent quarterly figures (up to December 2019), showed an increase in self-harm incidents in women’s prisons with 3243 incidents recorded, compared with 2995 incidents in the quarter up to September 2019.</p><p>The level of self-harm in women’s is too high and we are determined to address this. Our women’s estate psychology services (WEPS) have previously developed specialist interventions designed to support the most complex women within our care, and throughout the COVID-19 pandemic they have continued to support both staff and residents where it is safe to do so.</p><p>We are continuing to provide care and support to people at risk of self-harm or suicide through ACCT (Assessment, Care in Custody and Teamwork) case management. We have issued guidance to establishments during the pandemic so they can ensure that ACCT processes continue during the restricted regimes.</p><p>Across the prison estate, we have also given over 25,000 staff better training to spot and prevent self-harm and are investing an extra £2.75 billion to modernise prisons, combat drug use and improve the environment in which prisoners live.</p><p>As well as this, we have refreshed our partnership with the Samaritans which supports the excellent Listeners scheme, through which selected prisoners are trained to provide emotional support to their fellow prisoners.</p> answering member constituency South East Cambridgeshire answering member printed Lucy Frazer question first answered 29/06/2020 14:10:51 answering member 4517 label Biography information for Lucy Frazer
