<p>We announced our decision to cancel Safe To Be Me: A Global Equality Conference
on 6 April 2022. As stated in the answer of 26 April 2022 to Question 155906, expenditure
to that point, and due to the cancellation, is estimated to be between £0.41 million
and £0.61 million. We are still working with suppliers to reconcile costs for work
that had not been undertaken at the time of cancellation. Therefore as of 18 May 2022,
we estimate the costs to be as set out in the table below.<strong> </strong></p><table><tbody><tr><td><p><strong>Category
of spend</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>Cost (including VAT)</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>Description</strong></p></td></tr><tr><td><p>Venue</p></td><td><p>£200,000</p></td><td><p>The
Government is liable to pay a cancellation charge as stated in the contract.</p></td></tr><tr><td><p>Production</p></td><td><p>£365,000</p></td><td><p>Already
incurred production costs.</p></td></tr></tbody></table><p>We are currently exploring
whether VAT can be recovered on any of these costs. The final position will be reflected
in departmental accounts in the usual way.</p>
