answer text <p>The Electoral Commission will run a multimedia campaign ahead of the May 2018 local elections to encourage all eligible people to register to vote.</p><p>This campaign will include work, building on previous partnerships with organisations including The Traveller Movement and Shelter, to provide resources and information to support those with no fixed address to register to vote. Partners, including local authority communication departments, will be encouraged to share these via their own networks at a local level.</p> more like this

answer text <p>There should be no barriers to voting for any person with a disability. The Commission has prepared an Easy Read form which people with a learning disability are able to use to apply to register to vote. The form is available on the Commission’s website and promoted to Electoral Registration Officers via the Commission’s bulletin for administrators.</p><p>The Commission has ongoing partnerships with Mencap, Mencap Cymru, Mencap Northern Ireland and Enable Scotland; it is committed to providing ongoing support to these partners with joint Easy Read guides and other resources, to provide information on how to register and take part in elections for parents and families of people with profound and multiple learning disabilities.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Ahead of any election, the Commission provides resources for Returning Officers including training material, to ensure anyone who is eligible to vote is able to do so with confidence. It is the responsibility of Returning Officers to deliver training to polling station staff.</p><p>The Commission’s Polling Station Handbook contains specific guidance for polling station staff on what support any person with a learning disability can request in order to be able to cast their vote.</p><p>The Commission’s recent ‘Elections for Everyone’ report – which looks specifically at issues of access to elections for those with disabilities – contains a number of recommendations to ensure there are no barriers to any person with a learning disability being able to cast their vote.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Electoral Commission undertakes voter registration and public awareness campaigns in the lead up to each major poll, including advertising targeted directly at recognised under-registered groups such as people aged 18 to 25 and UK citizens living overseas.</p><p> </p><p>The tables below gives totals for advertising placed explicitly and exclusively to target these two audiences in the two campaigns run in the lead up to polls in May and June 2017. answer text <p>The Commission has recommended since 2014 that an accessible proof of identity scheme should be developed and implemented for polling station voters in Great Britain. This would address the current absence of effective checks against personation and improve public confidence. The Commission notes that the Government has stated its intention to bring forward legislation during the current Parliament, to ensure that a form of identification must be presented before voting.</p><p>Prior to the general election on 8 June, the Commission produced detailed guidance to help (Acting) Returning Officers and police forces to put in place plans to prevent and detect electoral fraud. The Commission also continued its successful partnership with Crime Stoppers, the anonymous crime reporting charity, to make sure people could report concerns about electoral fraud.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Electoral Commission collected data from Returning Officers for all UK constituencies following the UK Parliamentary General Election on 7 May 2015. The data shows that an estimated 12,803 people tried to vote on polling day and were unregistered.</p><p>This number is based on data from 418 constituencies, as not all Returning Officers provided data and of those that did, some of the data provided was approximate.
