answer text <p>The UK's Good Governance Fund (GGF) in Georgia is focused on public administration reform and the strengthening of parliamentary processes, in order to address institutional weaknesses and tackle corruption. It also supports direct dialogue between the Georgia Government and investors designed to improve the business environment. The GGF Programme Teams in Tbilisi and London use robust tendering and monitoring processes to ensure GGF-funded programmes deliver on these priorities. The British Embassy in Tbilisi is aware of developments around the Anaklia Port project and Caucasus Online, and will continue to monitor the situation.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The UK is concerned by the troubling, reported incidents involving Afghan refugees in May and June. Our Embassies in Tehran and Kabul have discussed our concerns regarding Afghan migrants in in Iran with their respective host governments, and we continue to monitor the situation on the Afghanistan-Iran border closely.</p><p>We welcome the joint statement issued on 22 June by the Foreign Ministers of the Governments of Iran and Afghanistan that called for both sides to take measures to prevent future incidents and enhance border security and management. We are in frequent contact with Iranian officials on issues involving Afghanistan, and raise the importance of supporting vulnerable refugee communities. We also raise this issue with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees. At the 43rd session of the UN Human Rights Council on 26 June, the UK welcomed the renewal of the mandate of the UN Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in Iran.</p> more like this

The Foreign Secretary raised this with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, on 8 July. He has also discussed this with the Foreign Ministers of Germany, France and Turkey. I have raised this with my Turkish, Greek and Cypriot counterparts in recent weeks. We believe it is critical for stability in the Eastern Mediterranean that disputes are resolved through constructive dialogue in accordance with international law, including as reflected in the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The UK Government remains deeply concerned by the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPTs), which has now reached over 30,000 (as of 6 September). The capacity of the Palestinian health system, especially in Gaza, to cope with the increase in COVID-19 cases has been severely impaired by longstanding Israeli movement and access restrictions and shortages in specialised staff, drugs and equipment.</p><p>The UK's recent £840,000 funding contribution has enabled the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF to purchase and co-ordinate the delivery of medical equipment, treat critical care patients, train frontline public health personnel and scale up laboratory testing capacity. The Foreign Secretary also recently announced a further £2.7 million funding to UN agencies to provide food assistance, medical supplies and personal protection for the most vulnerable Palestinians.</p><p>In addition to our commitment to funding, our Embassy in Tel Aviv and Consulate-General in Jerusalem frequently urge the Israeli and Palestinian authorities to take steps to improve conditions in Gaza.</p>

answer text <p>Palestinian refugees are amongst the most vulnerable and marginalized communities in Lebanon. The deteriorating economic conditions have further increased the risk that limited job opportunities will push the most vulnerable, including women, girls and young people, into harmful survival strategies.</p><p>Managing the spread of coronavirus is a top priority, with currently over 230 recorded cases amongst Palestinian refugees and active transmission in the wider Lebanese population. UNRWA is working with partners to balance continuity of care with provision of support to education and primary health care facilities.</p><p>This financial year the UK has provided £34.5m to UNRWA in addition to the over £710 million of UK humanitarian, development and stability funding to Lebanon since 2011, including to Palestinian camps.</p> more like this
