answer text <p>While there is no specific national screening programme or requirement for routinely checking for tongue-tie in newborn babies, where there are difficulties with breast feeding, it is a factor to be considered by health professionals. The Healthy Child Programme will be updated later this year to include guidance on supporting families to connect with services to manage the condition.</p><p>We have also recently announced £50 million to improve breastfeeding support. Local authorities will have flexibility in deciding how this funding is used to support families. This may include investing in staff training to discuss additional needs, such as tongue-tie or challenges with lactation and ensuring timely support and treatment is available and accessible.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The National Health Service (Appointment of Consultants) Regulations 1996 do not prevent NHS trusts from seeking alternative members to contribute to the process of appointing consultants. The Regulations do provide discretion to involve these Royal Colleges where appropriate and do not apply to foundation trusts, which comprise the majority of trusts.</p><p>We are considering the merits of amending the Regulations to include additional Colleges and will provide further details in due course.</p> more like this

answer text <p>We have committed to implement the specific recommendations made by the Ockenden Review. This includes £127 million for maternity services in England to increase the workforce and fund programmes to strengthen leadership and retention. This is in addition to £95 million announced in 2021 to support the recruitment of 1,200 midwives and 100 consultant obstetricians and multi-disciplinary team training.</p><p>The Review endorsed the Department’s plans to create a special health authority to continue the maternity investigation programme run by the Healthcare Safety Investigation Branch. We will continue to plan for the special health authority to commence its work from April 2023.</p> more like this

Government Departments are collaborating to embed evidence-based approaches to address inactivity and support health. answer text <p>Regulations made on 2 December 2021 will require medium and large businesses, including those with 50 or more employees, to restrict volume price promotions such as ‘buy one get one free’ or ‘3 for 2’ offers on high fat, salt or sugar products. Less healthy products in scope of the restrictions will also no longer be featured in key locations, such as checkouts, store entrances, aisle ends and their online equivalents. Free refills of sugary soft drinks will also be prohibited in the eating-out sector. These restrictions will come into force in October 2022.</p><p> </p><p>The <em>Restricting promotions of products high in fat, sugar or salt by location and by volume price: implementation guidance</em> was published in an online only format on 6 April 2022. The guidance was developed in collaboration with trade associations, businesses and local authorities, to provide further clarification on which businesses and which products are in scope of the Regulations to help businesses to plan ahead.</p><p> </p><p>The Government is committed to reviewing the Regulations within five years of the Regulations coming into force. The National Institute for Health and Care’s Policy Research (NIHR) Programme has commissioned the National Centre for Social Research to assess the extent and nature of location-based promotions of food and drink high in fat, salt or sugar in supermarkets in England. Officials are developing further plans to evaluate the effectiveness and implementation of this policy.</p>

answer text <p>NHS England and NHS Improvement continue to monitor the dementia diagnosis rate on a monthly basis and provide analysis on trends at a regional and sustainability and transformation partnership level to aid targeted recovery efforts. In 2021/22, we allocated £17 million to NHS England and NHS Improvement to address dementia waiting lists and increase the number of diagnoses. This funding was made available to clinical commissioning groups in June 2021. Later this year we will set out our plans for dementia in England, which will include a focus on dementia diagnosis.</p> more like this
