This has meant a need to review certain policy areas to focus on these priorities. Next Steps to put People at the Heart of Care announced a further £102 million, £50 million in 2023/24 and £52 million in 2024/25, for housing adaptation support. This is in addition to the £573 million per year which is already available for the Disabled Facilities Grant. This increase will enable local areas to fund supplementary services that are agile and help people stay independent, support hospital discharge, and make minor adaptations.</p><p>Local areas already have discretion on how they manage the grant, for example, they can increase the cap on a case-by-case basis or in line with a locally published housing assistance policy. They can also choose to waive the means test for grants costing under a certain amount. The Government has committed to publishing the Long-Term Workforce Plan shortly, which will include independently verified forecasts for the number of healthcare professionals required in future years, taking full account of improvements in retention and productivity. The long-term NHS workforce plan will look at the mix and number of staff required and will set out the actions and reforms across the NHS that will be needed to reduce supply gaps and improve retention. This plan will help ensure that we have the right numbers of staff, with the right skills to transform and deliver high quality services fit for the future.</p><p>On 10 January 2023, Health Education England (HEE) announced that nearly 900 additional medical specialty training posts will be created for this year, including an additional five rheumatology specialty training posts. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 14/06/2023 answer text <p>Through the National Health Service priorities and operational planning guidance, systems have been asked to refresh their workforce plans to improve staff retention through a systematic focus on all elements of the NHS People Promise.  The People Promise provides a strong focus on creating a more modern, compassionate and inclusive NHS culture by strengthening staff health and wellbeing, promoting equality and diversity, improving leadership and workplace culture and opening up opportunities for flexible working.</p><p> </p><p>NHS England is leading work nationally to strengthen retention across the NHS through its NHS retention programme. This includes supporting organisations to deliver best practice interventions in areas such as staff health and wellbeing, flexible working and menopause support in the workplace. A staff retention guide has been updated and includes information on supporting staff at different stages in their career with a focus on induction, reward and recognition. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 20/06/2023 answer text <p>We continue to grow the National Health Service workforce and as of March 2023 there are over 12,900 more nurses and over 5,400  more doctors compared with 12 months earlier.   We are on target to meet the 50,000 nurses’ commitment, with over 44,000 more nurses in March 2023 than there were in September 2019.</p><p>We are working with NHS England to develop workforce plans for our integrated care systems that link to national initiatives, including recruitment programmes for general practitioners, healthcare support workers, nurses and allied health professionals.
