answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 12/04/2019 answer text <p>In the United Kingdom, about 15,000 children and young people are affected by arthritis, with approximately 1,000 children diagnosed with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) per year. JIA may continue into adulthood, and about a third or more of children with the condition still need treatment in adult life.</p><p> </p><p>Support for patients with long term health problems should include provision of a holistic assessment and the development of a personalised care plan, taking into account their needs and preference for care. Treatment for JIA can include anti-inflammatory drugs, steroids and disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs), such as Methotrexate to suppress the immune response creating the inflammation. For patients who do not respond to DMARDs, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence has approved several biological therapies (anti-tumour necrosis factor drugs), which work in a similar way to DMARDs, but are more targeted in addressing the immune response.</p><p> </p><p>As set out in the NHS Long Term Plan, published on 7 January 2019, NHS England is taking action in a range of areas to improve the care and support for children and young people. From 2019/20 clinical networks will be rolled out to improve the quality of care for children with long-term conditions. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 15/04/2019 answer text <p>We are informed by NHS England that in the period up to and including October 2018, spend on the 18 low priority medicines has fallen by £31.1 million from £133.6 million, compared to 2016/17. This represents a reduction of 23%.</p><p> </p><p>The volume of medicines prescribed reduced by 27% and the number of patients prescribed these medicines reduced by 32%.</p><p> </p><p>In addition, NHS England has worked with PrescQIPP and the NHS Business Services Authority to refine its assessment of the amount of money spent on over the counter medicines.</p><p> </p><p>In the 12 months to January 2019, the total National Health Service spend in England on over the counter medicines was £449.4 million. This was a saving on total spend of £25.9 million from the 12 months to January 2018, which was £475.3 million. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 16/04/2019 answer text <p>In England, free National Health Service funded sight tests are available to eligible groups, including those under 19 and in full time education, with the purpose of detecting signs of injury, disease or abnormality and giving an individual a written prescription for glasses or referring them to a doctor for further examination. Funding is also available under the NHS voucher scheme for the provision of spectacles with a prescription power to correct a defect of sight identified during the NHS sight test. This could include a coloured tint if considered clinically necessary.</p><p> </p><p>Clinical commissioning groups are responsible for commissioning services to meet the needs of their local population.
