answer text <p>The Government takes seriously the issue of addiction to prescription medicines. People who feel that they might be dependent on either prescribed or over the counter medicines should seek help from a health professional in the first instance (such as a general practitioner or pharmacist). answer text <p>In December 2016, NHS England announced that over £200 million would be made available to Cancer Alliances over the next two years to improve earlier diagnosis and support roll out of the Recovery Package and Stratified follow-up pathways. The Recovery Package has been designed so that patients, including young people, receive personalised care and support from the point they are diagnosed to improve their quality of life. This includes a Holistic Needs Assessment to help patients and clinicians assess a patient’s needs and plan appropriately for their care and ongoing support, including emotional and mental health support. Stratified follow-up pathways allow a more personalised approach to follow-up care after treatment, providing a better experience for patients.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The cancer care review, part of the cancer recovery package that is being rolled out across the National Health Service, is carried out within six months of a cancer diagnosis and covers post-treatment support, including the financial impact of cancer and patient awareness of prescription exemptions. Additionally, the Government provides financial safeguards for families that are directly affected by cancer through a range of benefits including Disability Living Allowance for children and young people with critical or serious illnesses; or Personal Independence Payment for those 16 or above; and Employment and Support Allowance for people over 16 who are unable to work. Carers may also qualify for Carer’s Allowance provided they meet the eligibility criteria.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) published on 25 January 2017 the clinical guideline Cerebral palsy in under 25s: assessment and management NICE guideline (NG62). This is an independent and definitive view of the appropriate support for people with cerebral palsy.</p><p> </p><p>Clinical commissioning groups and local authorities have a responsibility to commission services that best meet the needs of their populations, including those with cerebral palsy.</p><p> </p><p>The Care Quality Commission and Ofsted have responsibility for reviewing the quality of care provided by the National Health Service, and social care and educational providers respectively. They are jointly reviewing the arrangements made in each local area for meeting the needs of children and young people with a special educational need and disability, which is likely to include children with cerebral palsy with the greatest needs.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Department's National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) welcomes funding applications for research into any aspect of human health, including cerebral palsy. These applications are subject to peer review and judged in open competition, with awards being made on the basis of the importance of the topic to patients and health and care services, value for money and scientific quality. The NIHR has supported research into cerebral palsy, for example research on sleep positioning for children with cerebral palsy, and research to support eating and drinking for individuals with cerebral palsy.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>In September 2016 the Government announced the largest ever investment into health research infrastructure - £816 million over five years from April 2017 for 20 NIHR Biomedical Research Centres in England. We would expect some of this investment to support cerebral palsy research.</p> more like this
