answer text
The A1237 is part of the local road network and any improvements are the responsibility of City of York Council. It is therefore for the City of York Council to consider the cost of dualling and upgrading the A1238 in York. The Council is currently developing a scheme to improve a number of roundabouts on the route, to be funded from the Local Growth Funding awarded to the West Yorkshire plus Transport Fund.
more like this

answer text
The Department for Transport has provided £0.598 million since 2016 to the City of York Council to help repair potholes and to stop them forming, as well as to improve the resilience of the roads for which they are responsible. This funding is enough to help repair over 11, 900 potholes. The funding is allocated to local highway authorities based on road lengths for which each authority is responsible.

This funding is on top of £13 million we will be providing to York between 2015/16 and 2020/21 for the purpose of local highways maintenance.

The Department for Transport is also working in partnership with City of York Council on two innovative trials which deploys innovative intelligent software to help identify road surface problems before they become potholes.
more like this

answer text
The Franchise Agreement with TransPennine Express does not outline a timetable for a response to TransPennine Express's consultation and report process on Boxing Day services. However, the Department and Rail North Partnerships are currently considering the contents of the report to determine whether Boxing Day services may be introduced from Dec-18, and if so, how it would be funded. A decision for this implementation date would be required by May/June 2018, and subject to identification of funding.
more like this

answer text
The Government is committed to improving wifi and mobile connectivity for rail customers.

The Department has taken steps to improve the wifi on rail services to and from York by putting in place requirements for the provision of wifi on the relevant franchises (Cross Country, East Midlands, First TransPennine Express, Northern and Virgin Trains East Coast). Good progress has been made and this work is due to be completed by 2020.

Furthermore, we are working with the Department of Digital Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) to see what further improvements can be made to mobile connectivity on trains. A joint Call for Evidence, published on 28 December 2017, is seeking views to inform our thinking on policy and delivery, and support the ambition to have digital connectivity on our railways that meets passenger expectations. The results will be published later in 2018.
more like this

answer text
The Government has no current plans to reduce rail journey times between York and Harrogate. However, rail services between York and Harrogate will benefit from other improvements to be delivered by the new Northern franchise. As part of the Great North Rail Project and the new North and Transpennine Express franchises, there will be improved services across the north by 2020. This includes four trains per hour each way between Leeds, Horsforth and Harrogate from 7am to 7pm and evening services enhanced.

In line with our devolution policies, it is for the York North Yorkshire and East Riding Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and relevant local transport authorities to decide whether such improvements are a priority to address the needs of their area and to secure appropriate funding. The LEP and partners are working on a business case for improvements to this line.
more like this
