answer text <p>The Department for Transport announced in January 2017 that it was undertaking an innovative trial on the way potholes are identified and managed.</p><p> </p><p>The Department for Transport is working in partnership with Thurrock, York and Wiltshire councils and two private sector SME’s, Soenecs and Gaist, to undertake the pothole spotter trial which allows high-definition cameras to be mounted to refuse collection vehicles to help identify road surface problems before they become potholes.</p><p> </p><p>Data has been collected from the trial and is currently being assessed. A “lessons learned” report will be published by end March 2019.</p> more like this

Some Mayoral Combined Authorities may be in the process of preparing a bus franchising scheme, but the Bus Services Act does not require any intervention or approval by central Government as part of this process. answer text <p>Network Rail are progressing the design and development of the Western Rail Link to Heathrow and recently concluded a statutory consultation on the proposed alignment of the route. This is a major step for the scheme and is required before Network Rail can submit its planned application to the Planning Inspectorate for the necessary consents in 2019.</p><p> </p><p>In respect of the proposed Southern Access scheme, the Department undertook market testing earlier this year. This is the first step in the development process, and will inform the work required before any decision on whether to progress the scheme is made, and if so, how to progress it.</p><p> </p><p>For both Western and Southern rail access, a summary of responses to the market testing will be published in due course.</p><p> </p><p> </p> more like this

answer text <p>The Department requires franchised operators to cooperate with each other to ensure that overall, the needs of passengers are met. This includes a requirement to offer a reasonable pattern of service such that connections between services can be made. Where specific connections are identified as being particularly important, the Department may specify their inclusion in franchise bids. Where a connection is required, a balance needs to be struck between allowing sufficient time to change trains, including during delays and maintaining an acceptable end to end journey time.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Approximately 16 per cent (17 out of 109 miles) of the A30 trunk road between Exeter and Penzance is not yet dual carriageway. The remaining single carriageway sections are between Carland Cross and Chiverton Cross, and between Camborne and Penzance.</p><p> </p><p>The Government has committed to dualling the A30 between Carland Cross and Chiverton Cross (9 miles of the above 17 miles of single carriageway), with construction work due to start in 2019-20.</p><p> </p><p>Proposals to dual the A30 between Camborne and Penzance will be considered as part of decisions on the second Road Investment Strategy covering the period 2020-2025.</p> more like this
