<p>The Department for Transport is responsible for policy and compliance relating
to the security of UK shipping and ports, in line with the International Ship and
Port Facility Security Code. Many departments play a role in wider maritime security
activity, including the monitoring of potential illegal imports by sea and other sea-based
threats.</p><p> </p><p>The National Strategy for Maritime Security, published in August
2022 by the Secretaries of State for the Department for Transport, Home Department,
Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Ministry of Defence and Department for
Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, sets out the full spectrum of responsible departments,
agencies and other organisations.</p>
