answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 13/07/2023 answer text <p>The Zero Emission Bus Regional Areas (ZEBRA) scheme provided funding to 16 local transport authorities in England outside London. The scheme will fund up to 1,307 zero emission buses, though this is subject to change as projects are progressed by local transport authorities. Of the buses funded, an estimated 748 have been ordered and 68 are on the road.</p><p> </p><p>We are committed to supporting the introduction of at least 4,000 zero emission buses and achieving an all zero-emission bus fleet across the UK. Since February 2020, across the UK an estimated 4,233 zero emission buses have been funded, of which an estimated 2,464 have been ordered and 1,604 are on the road. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 26/06/2023 answer text <p>The Bus Service Operator Grant (BSOG) given to commercial operators is to help them keep fares lower and enable services which may be unprofitable to continue running. The funding that operators receive is calculated based on fuel consumption and allows them to partially offset some of their operational costs, which may include fuel costs. Since 2010, over £200 million has been made available to commercial operators annually.</p><p> </p><p>BSOG funding given to local authorities is used to support bus services, including through subsidy for socially necessary bus routes; this is not related to fuel costs. These have been important in reducing air and noise pollution from vehicles and improving vehicle safety.</p><p> </p><p>Vehicle owners have relative freedom to modify their vehicles, subject to ongoing compliance with relevant standards. Compliance is monitored by the Department’s Market Surveillance Unit based in the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA). Current and past market surveillance activity includes targeted investigation of illegal vehicle modifications.
