This includes the results of breath tests conducted by the police at the scene of collisions. The latest breath test data is for 2021.</p><p> </p><p>Within the Greater Manchester metropolitan area, the local authority with the highest number of injury collisions where at least one driver failed a breath test (including drivers who refused to provide a sample) was Manchester with 23. answer text <p>In 2019, the Government spent £1,111,071.86 on anti-drink driving campaigns.</p><p>In 2020, the Government spent £177,014.73 on anti-drink driving campaigns. It is worth noting that during this period, communications were influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions on hospitality. With the pause in pub socialising, campaigns prioritised other emerging issues such as the increase in speeding seen in the first national lockdown and mobile phone use at the wheel, as well as travelling safely during the pandemic.</p><p>In 2021, total planned expenditure for drink drive campaigns comes to £963,609.38, of which £411,117.45 has been spent so far.</p><p> </p> more like this

We have a combined approach of tough penalties and rigorous enforcement along with our highly respected and effective THINK! Campaigns. This reinforces the social unacceptability of drink driving, and reminds people of the serious consequences that drinking and driving can have on themselves and others.</p><p> </p><p>The UK has achieved reductions in drink driving over the last 50 years. In 1979, 26% of road deaths occurred in accidents where at least one driver/ rider was over the drink-drive limit. It has been below 15% each year since 2010. We are determined to continue to reduce this number further, through our THINK! campaign, enforcement and tough penalties.</p><p> </p><p>The Government has no immediate plans to lower the drink drive limit in England and Wales. We believe that our current measures as outlined above are a more effective deterrent than changing the drink driving limit.</p>
