The Department for International Trade is responsible for supporting British businesses around the world and promoting trade ties with country partners. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 09/11/2018 answer text <p>Since the Referendum on the UK’s membership of the European Union the Government has recruited, or is in the process of recruiting, 13 additional members of staff to work on economic issues at the UK Mission in Geneva, including the UK’s engagement in the World Trade Organization. Staff were recruited either internally from the Civil Service or locally in Geneva. All recruitment was carried out in-house by existing government HR teams and the specific costs attributable for the recruitment for these positions at the UK Mission are not readily available. There was no recruitment (or advertising) through external suppliers. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 06/11/2018 answer text <p>In 2016 the Department for International Trade (DIT) established a dedicated taskforce to deliver bespoke activity to attract foreign direct investment into the Midlands Engine, including the East Midlands. This activity includes: full profiling of the key sectors and showcasing these at events overseas; working with DIT’s overseas network and local partners across the region to deliver tailored support to promote individual areas as a destination for investment; international promotion of a portfolio of Midlands capital investment opportunities, including 10 projects from the East Midlands; and provision of funding for local partners to collaborate and amplify investment messaging, such as attendance at the MIPIM property show in Cannes.</p><p>There were 72 investment projects that landed in the East Midlands in tax year 2017-2018. There were 3714 associated new jobs. That remains the goal on both sides and we are confident that this will be achieved. Our technical notices cover trade remedies, export control regulation, and trade agreement continuity, as well as a further technical notice on tariffs which we published jointly with HMRC and HMT. We are also preparing the Department to provide business-friendly answers to EU Exit enquiries on areas within our competence. Together with other Departments we are ensuring that businesses can access Government information on EU Exit online.</p><p> </p><p>Businesses, including current exporters to the EU, will benefit from the Department for International Trade’s strong offer regardless of the outcome of Brexit negotiations. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 16/10/2018 answer text <p>Scotch Whisky is an important part of the UK’s overall exports, representing 20% of UK food and drink exports.</p><p> </p><p>Ministers and officials from this department have regular discussions with the Scotch Whisky Association and other representatives from the industry and actively work with them to help increase whisky exports. Representatives of the Scotch Whisky Association recently joined business delegations to Africa and India led by the Prime Minister. The industry is supported in a similar way to other food and drink producers; we help them take advantage of a wide range of overseas opportunities.
