Between 2015 and 2018, DFID supported 17.5 million people in Africa to access clean water and/or better sanitation. For example, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, over 2.7 million people gained access to clean water with DFID’s support between 2015 and 2018. DFID is aware of a small number of minor irregularities in UK official development assistance spending on bilateral programmes in Gaza in the last two years. There are inherent risks to delivering aid in Gaza, which is why the UK has stringent controls in place to prevent the diversion of aid and only works with organisations that have a strong track record of delivering humanitarian aid in difficult places. We take immediate and strong action when any irregularities are reported and work closely with partners to prevent future cases. We do not disclose individual case details to protect the integrity of investigations, anonymity of informants and help ensure that we can get the best deal for the UK taxpayer through recovery of funds.</p><p> </p><p>In Gaza, our rigorous controls include: monitoring spending closely; mapping the flow of funds through each organisation involved in delivery; regular audits of programme spending; and field visits. These all enable us to deliver critical assistance to people in need whilst protecting UK taxpayers’ money. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 21/05/2018 answer text <p>Humanitarian, stabilisation and reconstruction needs in Iraq are amongst the most severe in the world, with many millions of people requiring support. The UK prioritises carefully to ensure our funding benefits the most vulnerable people. UK funding is distributed on the basis of need, to ensure civilians are not discriminated against on the grounds of race, religion, or ethnicity. This approach is enabling Christians in Iraq to benefit from UK aid.</p><p> </p><p>For example, the UK has contributed £14.45 million to the UN’s Funding Facility for Stabilisation (FFS), which helps the Government of Iraq re-establish basic services in areas liberated from Daesh, helping displaced Iraqis return to their places of origin. The FFS is heavily focussed on the Ninewa plains, and is implementing over 200 projects in areas where Christian communities reside. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 22/01/2018 answer text <p>The UK is proud to support the Africa-led movement to end FGM, which has been instrumental in achieving the significant decline of the practice seen in recent decades – in 1985, 51% of girls around the world aged 15-19 had undergone FGM; today the figure is 37%. We are a global leader on this issue, having made the largest ever donor commitment to ending FGM, and we have galvanised others to take action of their own through our international Girl Summit.</p><p>We continue to support and accelerate the Africa-led movement, and encourage others to step up too, because if current trends in population growth continue the number of girls undergoing FGM will rise significantly over the next 15 years.
