However, in preparation for the upcoming Civil Society Strategy, we will be exploring the range of challenges and opportunities that face charities, including on the subject of leadership. answer text
Sexual harassment is completely unacceptable and has no place in the name of charity or charitable fundraising.

Charities have a duty to fundraise responsibly and in line with their values. Charity trustees must also consider the well-being and protection of staff, volunteers and beneficiaries – not just those they are there to help. The Charity Commission, the independent registrar and regulator of charities in England and Wales, is assessing and dealing with the allegations that have been raised regarding the Presidents Club Charitable Trust as a matter of urgency. It has said that it will deal robustly with any misconduct or mismanagement it finds, and will consider what further regulatory action may be required.

The Code of Fundraising Practice sets out the standards expected of all charitable fundraising organisations across the UK, requiring their fundraising to be “….open, honest and respectful”. The Code is regulated by the independent Fundraising Regulator, which has said it will consider any case where it appears an organisation has failed to meet these principles.

The Fundraising Regulator has assessed the allegations regarding the President’s Club charity dinner. The Fundraising Regulator has written to the charity setting out its regulatory role and seeking further information about the charity dinner and how the charity carries out its fundraising

answer text
A digitally inclusive society is a key priority for the government, and everyone should be able to enjoy and exploit the benefits and convenience afforded to able-bodied people.

Ofcom is required under the Communications Act (2003) to set targets for the proportion of BBC output that should be audio described. Currently BBC channels (excluding BBC Parliament) are required to audio describe 10% of their programme content (except in the case of BBC News). Ofcom publishes reports on the provision of access services. The latest report shows that BBC channels comfortably exceeded their targets:

https://www.ofcom.org.uk/research-and-data/multi-sector-research/accessibility-research/tv-access-services-2017

As Ofcom’s report shows, broadcasters in the UK already provide a high level of subtitling, signing and audio description which is available for scheduled programming, but there is still room for improvement. Through the Digital Economy Act 2017, the provision of access services (subtitling, signing and audio description) is being extended to on demand services. Ofcom is in the process of consulting to determine the requirements that providers of on-demand programme services will be required to meet which will then be set out by the Secretary of State.

Sporting Future - Second Annual Report published last month confirmed that government is establishing an Inter-Ministerial Group on Healthy Living, to be co-chaired by the Secretaries of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport and Health and Social Care. answer text
The setting and environment in which sport and physical activity takes place has a big impact on the likelihood of people taking part, and continuing to take part, in the activity. As set out in government's Sporting Future strategy, government is committed to investing in facilities that are designed and built around customer need and that reflect people's preferences for how they want to engage with sport and physical activity. The strategy is clear that Sport England investment in major sports and physical activity facility projects should include a presumption in favour of co-locating sports and physical activity facilities with other types of community facilities to make it easier for people to get active.

Government has received representations on the Wellness Hub proposal from Sport England and ukactive and is working with both organisations to understand the implications of the proposal and how best to take this forward.
more like this
