answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 08/10/2019 answer text <p>A robust law enforcement response is a fundamental part of the government's drug strategy and we are taking coordinated action to tackle illegal drugs alongside associated criminal activity. Law enforcement agencies continue to work with internet service providers to shut down UK-based websites found to be committing offences such as selling drugs controlled under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.</p><p> </p><p>The government has been clear that more needs to be done to tackle online harms, including sale of illegal goods. Some studies suggest that artificial intelligence could add 10% to the UK GDP by 2030. Other studies highlight the benefits that artificial intelligence and automation could bring to specific sectors.</p><p> </p><p>For example, the independent “Made Smarter” review, published in October 2017, estimated that digital technologies, such as robotics, artificial intelligence, and additive manufacturing, could add £455bn to the UK manufacturing economy over the next decade.</p><p> </p><p>For that reason, under our modern Industrial Strategy, we have taken the following steps to support automation where and when it is appropriate and is for the betterment of society:</p><p> </p><ul><li>£558m of the £1.7bn Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund is related to automation;</li><li>Investment across UKRI partners for robotics, autonomous systems and AI for physical systems since 2014 totals £366m and has attracted a further £153m leverage from private sector or other public bodies;<br></li><li>The AI Sector Deal, published in April 2018, is worth up to£950m and is already delivering pioneering skills and data initiatives to create the jobs and markets of tomorrow; <br></li><li>Government is backing Made Smarter as our key industrial digitalisation programme, including through up to £121m investment into the Made Smarter digital manufacturing challenge to increase manufacturing productivity by up to 30%;</li><ul><li>In addition, Government is investing £20m into the Made Smarter North West pilot for adoption of digital technology, which includes robotics and automation;</li><li>Growth Hubs provide an important one stop shop for businesses seeking to improve their productivity. The £20m Made Smarter North-West Pilots will engage 3,000 SME manufacturers across the north west to improve their productivity, administered through Growth Hubs; and <br></li></ul><li>The UK’s Catapult network helps bridge the gap between businesses and the expertise of the UK’s world-class research in automation. Section 105a of the Communications Act 2003 requires telecoms operators to have appropriate measures in place to manage risks to the security of networks and services. The 5G Testbeds and Trials Programme has allocated £10 million to create capabilities where the security of 5G networks can be tested and proven, working with the National Cyber Security Centre.</p><p> </p><p>Furthermore, the Government has recently announced a strengthened security framework for 5G infrastructure following a thorough, evidence-based review of the 5G supply chain, which can be found here: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/819469/CCS001_CCS0719559014-001_Telecoms_Security_and_Resilience_Accessible.pdf. This raises the security bar through new, strengthened security requirements that will ensure telecoms providers meet new challenges as 5G technology evolves. As set out in the Online Harms White Paper the government will take action to tackle content or activity that harms users, particularly children.</p><p> </p><p>Companies will be required to take robust action to address harmful content, including self-harm content which encourages eating disorders. This is an opportunity for everyone involved in the sport to build on this momentum to continue to raise the profile of women’s football and women’s sport in general.</p><p> </p><p>The government is determined to get more girls and women playing sport, something we set out in our sport strategy, Sporting Future. Football is the second most played team sport for adult women and the top ranked team sport in terms of participation for girls.</p><p> </p><p>We are investing £14.6million into the Football Association (FA) through Sport England between 2017-2021, to support their grassroots participation, talent and coaching programmes. £2.6million of this is specifically reserved for women and girls talent programmes and the FA also receive an additional £2million each year towards improving diversity in its coaching workforce.</p><p> </p><p>Government is also investing £18million into the Football Foundation charity each year to help deliver a programme of new and improved community sports facilities in towns and cities across the country.</p><p> </p><p>All public funding provided is used to benefit men’s, women’s and disability football; for example investment in a mixed coaching programme or facility will benefit all groups within that community.</p> answering member printed Lord Ashton of Hyde question first answered 19/07/2019 10:41:07 answering member 4247 label Biography information for Lord Ashton of Hyde

answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 12/07/2019 answer text <p>Digital markets, including online advertising, are an increasingly important part of everyday life and it's vital that we ensure they work for everyone - citizens, businesses and society as a whole.</p><p> </p><p>As part of the Cairncross Review into the future sustainability of the UK press, the Department of Digital, Culture, Media &amp; Sport (DCMS) published independent analysis on the structure of the online advertising sector, which is available to view at: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/the-cairncross-review-a-sustainable-future-for-journalism</p><p> </p><p>In line with the Cairncross and Furman Review recommendations, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has launched a market study into online platforms and the digital advertising market that will assess the market power held by online platforms. This will complement the forthcoming DCMS review of online advertising regulation and government's response to the recommendations made by the Cairncross Review.</p><p> </p><p>This CMA study comes at a pivotal time, as we look to promote competition in digital markets while ensuring that consumers benefit from new technology and innovation. Despite strict restrictions already being in place to prohibit HFSS product advertising around children’s programming, and similar protection online, evidence suggests children are still exposed to significant levels of HFSS advertising across the media they engage with most.</p><p> </p><p>There is no lead option in our consultation and we will be led by the evidence in determining the way forward. The consultation closed last month, and is available to view at https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/further-advertising-restrictions-for-products-high-in-fat-salt-and-sugar. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 10/07/2019 answer text <p>The Online Harms White Paper proposes establishing a new regulatory framework for online safety which will make clear companies’ responsibilities to keep UK users safer online under a new duty of care. This framework will be overseen by an independent regulator which will have effective enforcement powers. Among the sanctions available to the regulator will be the power to fine operators who do not comply with their new duty of care.</p><p> </p><p>The government believes that behaviour which is illegal or unacceptable offline should be treated in the same way online and it is important to make sure that the criminal law is fit for purpose to deal with online harms. The Department for Digital, Culture, Media, and Sport and the Ministry of Justice have engaged the Law Commission on a second phase of their review of abusive and offensive online communications.</p><p> </p><p>The Law Commission will review existing communications offences and make recommendations about options for reform.
