The Government is committed to promoting and defending the right to freedom of religion or belief (FoRB) for everyone, everywhere. This includes ensuring that progress made in implementing the Bishop of Truro's recommendations for an enhanced response to the plight of persecuted Christians, and people persecuted for holding other religions, beliefs, or no religious belief, is embedded and that FoRB is central to our wider human rights work.
more like this

When the UNSC most recently discussed the humanitarian situation in Syria on 25 October and 21 November, the UK urged Council Members to unite and renew the existing resolution on cross-border aid. Officials and ministers make similar representations in their bilateral engagements with UN Member States. The UK remains the third largest bilateral donor to the Syrian crisis, having committed over £3.8 billion in aid since 2012.
more like this

Colombia has ambitious national decarbonisation plans and has committed to achieve zero net deforestation by 2030. Our Partnership for Sustainable Growth will support the delivery of these targets, including through the UK's flagship £64 million 'Sustainable Forest Territories' Programme ('TEFOS'), which supports the protection of forests in high-deforestation, conflict affected areas.
more like this

answer text
The UK, in coordination with our international partners has introduced several packages of increasingly hard-hitting sanctions that prohibit the provision of a wide range of services and goods, including military equipment, to Russia by UK individuals and organisations. On 20 October, the UK introduced sanctions that target Iranian individuals and a business responsible for supplying Russia with drones in contravention of UNSCR 2231. The UK Government does not speculate on specific future sanctions, as to do so could reduce their impact. We will continue the pressure against Putin and his regime, until Ukraine prevails or Putin ends his war of choice.
more like this

answer text
The sentencing to death of protestors in Iran is abhorrent. I (Minister Rutley) condemned this tragic development in the House on 16 November. The UK opposes the death penalty in all circumstances, in all countries, as a matter of principle. The UK is committed to challenging the Iranian regime's violent response to recent protests. On 14 November, the UK sanctioned 24 individuals for violations of human rights in the repression of protests. This was on top of the sanctions of 10 October against the so-called 'morality police' and seven security officials. The UK is also working with international partners to hold Iran to account for its violent response to the protests. This includes through the full range of multilateral fora, including the Special Session of the UN Human Rights Council, the UN Security Council, G7 and the UN General Assembly Third Committee.
more like this
